Can't argue with math and convenience.

The only bad thing is when Toyota loses a sale, not the dealer's problem. China takes control of Japan, and GW pick ups are being sold stateside with an added market adjustment.

    A couple thoughts on this.

I think it’s easy to get frustrated with dealers who are charging market adjustments. However, we live in a capitalistic economy, and one of the bedrock tenets of that economy is the idea that the market should set the price of any good or service aside from a few essentials that are regulated or to which price gouging laws apply.

A brand new TRD Pro certainly isn’t essential to anyone. I have trouble feeling sorry for anyone who is paying for a Pro with a market adjustment. I mean, that was your choice.

Where’s the outcry about people selling used vehicles at increases in value of 20-30% since before the pandemic? Are they bad actors, are they immoral? If you’re trading in and grousing about a dealer markup, shouldn’t you also be asking for your trade in to be valued at a pre-2020 amount?

If you don’t value a vehicle at the price the dealer wants, then don’t buy it, it’s pretty simple.

I’d love to drink a bottle of Pappy 25, but I don’t value it at $45K, so I don’t buy it, seems simple to me.

There are enough people on the demand side buying Pros and lots of other vehicles at prices with market adjustments, so they agree with the value. MSRP is an artificial price set at the beginning of a sales year. It knows nothing about future scarcity or insane popularity or other unexpected impacts on the market.

I totally agree with your thoughts and that people are the ultimate decision makers in their purchase but to be fair as someone on here stated dealerships need be fair as in like the OP he got his truck at msrrp when he asked for the same markup on his trade in. what's fair is fair that's all I am really saying. In my final say it really is up to the buyer pay what they feel and know is fair deal and if someone is joshing you then simply walk away !

Dealers have all kinds of ways to adjust the deal, the buyer just has to feel comfortable with the bottom line sale price and trade in value if any. If a dealer immediately comes off the market adjustment, that tells me it’s a tactic to start the negotiating from a higher place. Or maybe it’s a vehicle that is not selling with the adjustment, telling the dealer the market is not as strong as they thought.

Ran across this ad on CL. He wants his own “Market adjustment”. SMH. At least 100k invested had me shaking my head the most. Crazy new world we live in. Anyway, thought I’d share. Take care everyone.

Great points made. What’s funny to me are people that complain about the dealer and then have to sell their vehicle for some reason and want more than what they paid. Lots of hypocrisy out there. The market is what someone would pay.

I really think that it what did it. He offered me 57k for my trade and I wrote down 67k. He had just finished explaining to me the complexities of the market and trying to justify the adjustment. When he looked at my 67k offer, I told him that the same applies. He smiled and said that he couldn't argue at all.

Don't pay it. Wait. This economy is headed for major changes. These dealerships have turned into complete scum with their mark ups and dealer fees. I know some brands are tossing around online ordering and making dealers into a delivery location / maintenence/ warranty centers. I hope it happens, screwem.

What ever the market adjustment on the dealers end is, just have it reflected the same increase for your trade. They want an extra $10k for a vehicle, then they should pay an extra $10k for your trade in

Ford Ranger XLT FX4 Splash Forged Green Metalic. Trade your Pro at CarMax, do not pay a mark up at the Ford dealer, pocket the profit. You would probably want to buy a set of Fox 2.0s and up size the tires. Save .75 cents at the pump per fill up.

How many of the people that you know would even know you have a different truck?

Exactly that’s why msrp dealers aren’t always the best deal.

Traded in My 2021 pro manual 3 days later my Toyota loan was paid in full and it sold for 55k at the dealer plus taxes and fees. Probably sold in less than 3 days and had to wait for loan to clear.

Think of it this way. The off road you could get for 5k under msrp before the pandemic so they added 5k plus on that to get to msrp. The pro was usually 5k over sometimes you could get msrp at one dealer here in AZ but usually not (I lucked out on that) Depends on your state but inline with everything else not absurd especially with their resale value. Just if you want to pay it and like you said it’s your dream car so sometimes you have to pay up.
