This was the statement that was like...yep, time for eBay's intervention.

The rest of the sob story was sad, no doubt, but still. I've given him PLENTY of options, at least one of which would likely net him additional money. He claims he has no money, yet he purchased items on eBay this month. If I had no money and I was selling stuff to survive, I absolutely wouldn't be buying things on eBay. Even if it was something as simple as parts to fix things to sell, if I didn't have cash, I'd sell the things broken. I just hate that I have enough of a conscience this is actually bothering me. I mean I guess it means I'm human, but still I'm getting a resolution favorable to me one way or another.

 

I just fixed a rattling exhaust heat shield on the drivers side behind the front wheel. All three bolts were rusted off. Does anyone know if there is supposed to be a heat shield on the 2nd gen passenger side too? Wondering if I lost it?

 

My 2010 did but 4 banger so it could be different

I’m happy that’s the only exhaust problem I’ve had so far at over 150K miles. All the Jeeps and Subarus I owned before would have had a bunch of leaks and rusted parts by now.

Update on my situation.

I've got a return label, so back it goes. Obviously I'm documenting the hell out of the car before I send it back. So bummed out as this is the second one of these I've bought that didn't work out. Now I've got a spare mirror I'll never use that I imported especially from Germany.

 

It's worse if it's part of a new vehicle launch.

 

Not on the same level but I ordered a glass top tea box from Amazon. They packed it with no dunnage. So obviously the glass broke. I asked the second one be sent with dunnage. None again. And the third one came in broken too. Went for a refund and just no more attempts after that.

 

Honestly, where did you purchase a mirror for a diecast car, since I have been looking for a mirror for my AutoArt Grand Wagoneer for over 10 years! I even sent an email to AutoArt's manufacturer in China, and they couldn't help me either (I didn't think they could, but it was a last ditch effort, though it was tough translating the emails!).

 

It is amazing how poorly packaged some of the stuff from Amazon is. Most of it is very well packed, but every once in a while they do something dumb. They are pretty good about refunds, but sometimes getting an undamaged replacement is impossible.

 

I ordered a special edition box set from Amazon Germany. It's similar to a square cookie tin. I was surprised it was shipped in one of those Amazon bags clothes usually come in. Luckily, the box set only had minor dents.

 

I suspect, but don't know for sure, that they use a computer algorhythim to decide what goes in what kind of package. I've got a few fairly fragile things in those envelopes, but also got some small items in huge boxes.

 

Supposedly, getting small items in huge boxes had to do with filling extra space in the trailer to keep things from shifting around. I ordered something that was roughly the size of an audio cassette (without the case), and the box was large enough for a 4-slot toaster.

 

Maybe, but most of the stuff that goes through a distribution center goes on a pallet first. The people loading the pallets are supposed to keep the packages within the footprint of the pallet. It doesn't always happen. The pallets are also wrapped in clear plastic to keep items from shifting. The people who do that are called "Water Spiders."

 

I worked with too many people who are good at building upside down pyramids that even shrink wrap can't save.

 

So far I've had just that and one hanger dropping..though the frame rot is probably the reason for the latter.

Yup, best possible thing IMO..wash your hands of this particular item and person.
