Let's try this again! Saturday morning at 12:15ish AM someone decided they didn't like my mailbox...

    20220625_094736.jpg

A Ford truck ran into it and took off. I just set the post up in that picture.

I installed that one April 3rd. So I didn't even get 3 full months out of it. This time I went cheaper as it seems from what people say it happens quite often...

    20220626_140019.jpg

We'll see how long this one last

If it were me I'd concrete it in a few feet deep and encase it with cinder block and wrap it with stone veneer, so it would leave a mark if someone ran into it. :notsure:

Spring mount at the base so it lays over then pops back up?
And a "dye packet" kind of marking system when it is hit

As frustrating as it is, it only cost $60 for the whole setup. The hole was already dug so not too labor intensive.

I'm surprised you don't have a breakaway bracket at the base, here the entire structure just clamps in to the base so damage is minimal unless they go over it and it gets caught up under the vehicle.

I would think the person driving the vehicle onto your property and damaging it would be liable, but I'm not a lawyer.

So I think the distinction usually lies on whether or not you have a barrier between the roadway and the mailbox. Here at least if there is no 4 inch curb or guardrail protecting the mailbox we have to make them breakaway. I think it's more to protect snowplows when the mailboxes are buried than anything else.

Gave the go ahead on a concrete patio this weekend! 10'x21' for $2100. Includes finish grading and 2 new metal crawlspace vent wells.
    IMG_20220626_182613841.jpg

Gonna round off the far corner so its not just a rectangle. All the dirt they take out is going to be placed against the house to deflect water from my crawlspace. Cant wait! Should be done next week sometime.

Finishing up almost the last piece of the garage puzzle. Previous owner had the back part of the carport walled in and a lockable closet. There was a door opening, but it was only a Larson storm door. While it was a nice unit, it doesn't offer the security and insulation as a regular door. I managed to squeeze a 32" fiberglass 9-lite in there.

Only real good picture of the before:

    Now onto the 9-lite...

Still need to get the table saw out and trim the outside, started late and didn't want to drag the table saw out right at the time I was preparing supper. Wasn't able to use the pre-installed brick molding as I had a height restriction. The concrete floor being a carport wasn't 100% level, but was able to shim it up. Put a good couple beads of Lexel caulking on the bottom before setting the door and then on the outside bottom to reduce water infiltration. Whoever did the wall did better finish and vinyl/aluminum work than framing. Was pretty damn un-square, but I was able to work around it.

Finished up the back door trim today. Set myself up a temp shop out in the grass so I wouldn't have to sweep up saw dust.

    20220628_113350.jpg

Ripped down some left over 1x pine and decided to put a couple coats of spray Zinnser primer before hanging.

    20220628_114947.jpg

Trim attached, caulked, and a quick coat of paint. I'll paint the door itself another day.
