I wanted to keep the spare in the stock location, to avoid dealing with a swingout or taking room in the bed. When I first started running 35s, I tested the staggered "3+1" setup on the highway with one of my old 32" Duratracs; it was fine aside from having to hold the steering wheel a bit off-center. Last month I drove 300 kms home from Ardbeg like that, driving at normal highway speeds, with no ABS/VSC lights. Adaptive cruise worked fine, too.
