That's an awesome feature, I don't know if that justifies the price. I don't think I will ever be installing a solar system.

It is awfully expensive to save the planet…to get everyone one board, it would have to be a hell of a lot cheaper. So is it reeeeeally about the environment or is more about selling more shit?

The Aptera crushes that one when it comes to solar charging. It's solar panels will give the car up to 40 miles of travel charge each day from the sun. You just can't take a lot of crap in one. It has two seats, and a very low "hatch" area in the back.

The Aptera has different size battery pack choices, from ~250 miles in the base version up to 1,000 miles of range. Not sure why anyone would want a 1,000 mile solar car, but they offer it...lol

Oh, the Aptera starts around $25K.

Hey solar vs offgrid generator. I mean when you don't have power lines and gotta truck in propane or diesel....

My real 'lesson learned' is that the grid in the sticks is fragile as shit and will go down in any bad weather event. And since your customer per <area> density is low, you'll be the last in line to get stuff restored.

Yes, and when they start shipping I'll be impressed. Nice vaporware for over a decade though.

Not sure what that has to do with EVs being crazy expensive, perhaps you quoted the wrong post? Should of it been using the F150 as an off grid power source?

    But I’ll answer anyways.

Or have natural gas on your property. Our friends farm back in PA had it. Can’t remember the specifics about the mineral rights though. They got the gas for free, plus the gas company leased that part of the land or something like that.

We sorta grew up in the sticks, do remember loosing power for a week or so a couple few winters, but we heated with wood, plus had natural gas. Wasn’t a huge deal. Humans lived for thousands of years long before the discovery of electricity. Don’t really need it to survive or even to live well. Just look at all the great empires that have existed before electricity.

Exactly, and have some range. What’s a Raptors mpg, 15? times a 36 gallon tank, equals 540 miles…at least according to my fuzzy math.

More concerned about range than cost, I couldn’t take a Lightning camping where I like to go. It is 144 miles away to my favorite spot, which doesn’t include all the running round when I get there. Base model Lightning has a range of 230 miles, looses 20% with larger tires, then how much does it loose loaded up pulling a trailer going up mountain passes? Maybe another 50% if you’re lucky. Might be able to squeak 90-100 miles out of it….couldn’t even make it there. No charging stations there either. where the Raptor could go there and back almost twice on one tank.

Guess the lightning be ok as a commuter or didn’t stray far from the interstate. Here in Idaho pretty screwed if you head into the backcountry or small towns. One of the main reasons I own a truck is to camp, haul dirt bikes and explore the back country.

Don’t worry with all the Californians moving to Idaho it’ll be full of charging stations soon.

Nobody is claiming the first generation of electric trucks is for everyone and can do everything a current ICE Raptor or Super Duty can.

However, most truck users could use an electric truck if the price is right and I think we’ll get there soon enough. Have to remember that a significant portion of pickup truck sales are fleet vehicles.

As a bonus EVs can do some things an ICE truck can’t do and maintenance is far cheaper. Buyers will weigh the pros and cons and decide with their wallets. If manufacturers didn’t believe in the market, they wouldn’t be pouring so much R&D into it.

No vehicle is a one size fits all solution, even among current ICE offerings.

Just really tired of the “but it doesn’t work for my extreme use case scenario” comments that seem to pop up in every EV discussion. I just don’t think they’re constructive, and miss the overall points. Sorry, just venting a bit after reading the same type of thing on Bring a Trailer comments. If an EV isn’t for you, nobody is forcing you to buy one, let us have our fun. /rant

I run to the mountains once or twice a week. Not really an extreme use scenario as it is part of my weekly routine. Never said anyone is forcing an EV on me, but the EV proponents try to sell you on one telling you the benefits, yet when you give examples why it won’t work they get upset. You case in point.

This is where I was last Sun-Tue, and heading back up there this Sun-Tue, and the Sun-Tue after that and the Mon-Sat after that, etc….might be extreme conditions to some, but not for me. It would be great if they would work, but really only “ok” for commuter status currently, that isn’t good enough for me to spend my money on.

Sure, if you have gas on property from a well.. that's not all that common.

But the 'backup battery' feature of the F150 lightning was quoted as an 'expensive feature'... but if you compare the amount of kWh in a lightning to a standalone pack, it's not.

Bruh. I have a R4P for the daily and the ski runs, and the Taco for the stuff in the picture above. If I didn't have the taco .. the R4P might likely be able to do that run, tbh. It'd make it suck more as a daily, though. But when I'm paying 5c/mile (or so), don't whinge at me when your daily is 25c/mile.
