Why is the maintenance warning light at 5000 mile intervals then?

Just for the tire rotation I would guess.

Your floor mats also need to be checked at 5k. Don't skip that.

I change mine every 1,000 miles.. ends up around every 6 months. Use mobile 1... :anonymous: Even at 1,000 miles the oil is dark black. I do my own... there's no way in hell i'd let a quick lube (dealership included) do a oil change.

Old thread but for those thinking this is a good deal those "free" oil changes are going to end up being extremely costly after the dealership gets done with you for what they charge for scheduled maintenance and parts.

If you read the owner’s manual it tells you exactly what work the dealership is supposed to do at the 5,000 mile interval.

Whether or not they actually do what they’re supposed to when you take your truck in….couldn’t tell ya

my 2022 with toyota care has a free 5,000 mile check up... that they conveniently couldn't schedule me for until july 2nd when I called a week ago. Already at 5500 now while I wait. I drive a lot for work. They better not bust my balls.

Where is the best metal/alloy oil filter cap?
Best not cheapest,... in the Amazon jungle you get what you pay for.

Skid plate recommendations for the oil access?

Thats your first service. They rotate the tires, and perform a list of checks.

I have a 2022 Tacoma. Fisrt oil change and tire rotation done by the dealer starts at 5000 Miles. That is what I have in my manual.

Owners manual clearly states some use conditions that might require an oil change ever 5,000 miles. 10,000 is just the standard interval. They only do the oil every 10,000 on the Toyota care plan. The dealership does make coin on it because Toyota should be paying them since those services are included in the vehicle purchase.

I had been a advocate for 6-7K oil changes with conventional oil for many years. The video below has caused me to change my ways. I recently purchased a new Tacoma and will be doing 5k myself in between the dealer oil changes. My dilemma is when do do the first one.... 1k, 2.5k or 5k....

I originally changed it in my 2020 when it had 4500 miles. I was going for 5000 but had time and a day with good weather since I have to do it in a driveway, no garage here.
I've changed mine every 5000 miles doing it myself between Toyota care services. But now that Toyota care is over I'm on my own and will do it myself here on out.
I'm not picky about the oil just use supertech or penzoil 0w20 what ever one Wal mart has in stock with an oem oil filter.
You will get told it's not required but my feeling is engines and overhauls are expensive oil is cheaper. Oil gets recycled so it's not an environmental issue as much as people think.

I've seen supertech oils in tests. It's actually a very good oil. I'd just match it with a Toyota filter.
