265 or 285?

I have 285-70-17's -12 offset wheels and no rubbing issues I used Bilstein 6112's on the front circlip set at 5 pass and 6 drivers for taco lean and delta joint uca's.

 

285s actually come in SL rated. Quite a few choices.

 

265 70 17 no lift

 

I fit 265/70R17 stock suspension no problem. I now have a 2.5” lift and am running 285/70R17. No rubbing, but just did a cab mount chop to allow more negative offset.

after seeing all these photos i am thinking about going the 255/85 route when i upgrade....i think those look great

 

Good luck finding them in a SL or C rated, all I can find is E rated which will be heavy, ride will suffer and MPG will drop. Give me a 275/70 or a 265/70 in SL.

 

No mpg drop from my 265/70/17 C load KO2s. Currently running 255/80/17, love it!

 

285/70 17 looks best and as others have said if you get UCA a CMC isn’t always even needed. 265/70 is nice too for gas purposes but looks a tad small when you lift the truck. My opinion

 

All roads lead back to 275/70/17.

 

I agree. 275 70 17 is perfect for a 2inch lift.

I would probably go 285 if I had a 3inch lift.

I will be doing the same tire and size on mine next tire change.

 

I went from 265/75R16 to 285/75R16 and am happy with the aesthetic of the truck. The tires are flush with the sides of the truck if not barely poking out. There is more power required to accomplish the same obstacle now because of the weight of the larger tires without re-gearing. Gas mileage has changed maybe 1-2mpg. I do have a CMC and ARB bumper with adjustable UCA and have not experienced rubbing, even while off roading. Hope this helps.

 

My 265/75/16 looked stuffed in the front wheel wells, until I did a 2/1" lift. My next tire will be a 255 33" tire. Much less power loss & rubbing/trimming issues than what a 285 will give you.

 

What 255/85 tire can you get for a 16" wheel?
Or will you be going to a 17" wheel for a 255/80?

 

Pretty sure it’s all MT tires in 255 width and 16” rim.

Doh, I never considered MT, been keeping my mind on AT tires.
I want to keep the 3PMS symbol so I've only been able to find sizes for 285/75r16 in AT tires. Not a whole lot for skinnies

 

i also run Cooper AT3 E's in 285/65-17. what a great tire size, this is the zone of perfection for my truck. kinda wish i could get other tires in this size. but i do like the AT3's... i'm on my fourth set.
