Tacoma Stalking, er...uh, Spotting, with Charlie™ (1st Gen Edition)!

Looks like a good candidate for a farm truck. Seriously, you wouldn’t believe just how well these trucks die as a “UTV”.

 

Look closely at the hitch receiver; The frame is nowhere near as rusty as the hitch receiver, which would lead me to believe that frame was replaced at some point, and with the exception of the tailgate the body isn't that bad!

 

That would make a good Flip.

 

By putting A/C in an reselling it?

 

No l was thinking about wheels and tires and some paint, would return a nice profit.

 

I'd install A/C and a killer stereo, and drive it!

 

I’d take that old girl out and turn her loose on some trials.
The only “flip” I’d make is when me and a few buddies “flip” it back on 4 wheels.
Those little trucks are tanks. Most would be surprised at just where you get in them.

This is a 1996 Tacoma 4x4, and at first even I thought it was just another worn out 1st Gen; However, after talking to the owner I realized it was quite a rare find! Yes, it's beat up and rusty; The current owner had to do extensive work to the frame to get it to pass inspection, but it is safe to drive now. The A/C does not currently work, but it runs and drives great; At just under 186K miles, this thing is barely broken in!

As stated above, when I first saw this truck, I didn't think it was a particularly special one; I don't see pre-2001 First Gens that often, so I took this picture; I decided to chat with the owner, who can be seen standing behind the truck in a red sleeveless shirt. He was a very nice guy, and after I told him about TW, he may be joining!



So, what's so special about this truck?!?!

 

Is it a v6? The single cab v6 1st gens are the rare ones

Yup! This was taken at the swap meet section of the Carlisle GM Nationals, so the owner had the truck filled to the gunwales with his merchandise; I assure you it is merely cluttered in this pic and not in particularly bad condition!

Factory power windows and power locks; I have NEVER seen a regular cab Tacoma with power windows and power locks!

See that sticker on the upper corner of the door trim panel? Factory locking rear diff!

 

Almost 186K miles; Barely broken in, and as you can see in the other pictures, the guy was pulling a trailer with it!

 

Damn that is a rare bird indeed, pre TRD days (before 1998) the e-locker was something you ordered it with so it wasn't all that common, especially on a reg cab v6. Nice find indeed

 

The owner told me that the driver's side window didn't work, which especially sucks in my opinion because the A/C needs to be charged and doesn't blow cold; This did not particularly bother the owner. The A/C in my 2010 not only blows ICE COLD, but I have good crank windows in case the A/C does take a dump so I'm not sweating...

The truck is totally stock except for an aftermarket Pioneer stereo with a CD player and AUX input; I'm assuming that this was would have come from the factory with either a single-DIN AM/FM cassette or a double-DIN CD/cassette combo? The 1995 that @Running Board Man used to have apparently came from the factory with a CD/cassette combo...?
