yeah, thats the one I was looking at, but all my battery operated tools are Makita, and I hate the thought of getting into a new charger and battery line.

I saw their oscillating saw but didn’t realize they had a sander attachment for it. That might get added to the list.

in more depressing tool news, the circular saw I inherited from my dad that he bought when he started his construction business in the 70’s finally died on me. This thing cut miles of 2x stock, and could cut stucco like butter with a diamond blade. What a depressing day. The 6/4 piece of Ash it’s on was the final straw.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
I would go for brushes before bushings, if it had them of course.

Just make sure you have a good power source and make sure the cord is good. Did it die when you were actually using it?

I am by no means an expert on electrical motors, the motor itself sounds good, but the blade stops spinning when any pressure is applied to it. Checked the obvious arbor nut being tight and blade seated properly, but it seems like something’s stripped out internally. I’ll probably open it up at some point and see if there’s anything obvious in there.

The blade stops but does the motor stop?

If the motor stops you may just need brushes or possibly to have the motor core to be re-wound, if the motor keeps going I'd look at the arbor.

That tool is probably worth refurbishing for the sentimental value alone.

Largely unrelated but perhaps you can answer a question for me:

Why do "right handed" circ-saws have the blade to the right side of the tool where you can't see it cut when in your right hand?

I've had a DeWalt 6 1/2" circ-saw that was "left handed" as the blade was to the left and I could watch the blade as I cut with the tool in my right hand.

Recently I replaced my power tools to one family and went to a more typical larger 7 1/4" Milwaukee circ-saw but the blade is on the right side of the tool as is most typical.

I dunno how well it's going to cut for me, definitely goes against what I'm experienced with but it doesn't appear they make a "left-handed" circ-saw for right handed people in the 7 1/4" flavor.

If you can't tell I'm not much of a carpenter.

Motor sounds good whether the blade is spinning or not, I’ll pull it apart and see what I can see.

I agree with you on left handed saws, my “daily” circular saw is a battery powered makita that I accidentally bought a left handled model online. I can’t imagine going back, it’s so much easier to see the blade, and having one of each allowed me to get into spots and make cuts the other won’t st times.

You have a link for the hardware kit? Granted I'm North of the border, but the kit I found was $110. I think by foolishly putting in 'Moxon vise' in the title adds on a specialty tax. At that price even Benchcrafted isn't much more.

My handles are not that nice, and the threads are cut instead of rolled, but it is smooth and easy to use.

I can wack the handle with my hand it will spin to hold, not tight but it doesn't drop the wood. No cork or leather in mine, just wood.

Awesome thanks. Apparently shipping it over the border doubles the cost.... on Amazon atleast.

I looked found the very similar set on taytools.com (the same manufacture) for an appropriate price. I'm just shocked, that amazon would try to take advantage of lazy customers such as myself and charge a convenience premium /s

    Link for anyone wondering https://taytools.com/collections/ne...-rods-4-1-2-cast-knob-square-nuts-and-washers

You will need two more nuts. The inside face of the rear vise jaw, has two nuts chisel relieved and set just below the surface. I hope this helps.

The instructions really were worth quite a bit as well.
