Black Fender Flares

What’s up y’all I’m trying to figure out if anyone knows where to get the black fenders for the 3rd gen tacoma. I think it’s a TRD thing, but I want to add it to my Taco.

 

The TRD Offroad and the TRD Pro have the black fenders extension. To make it cheaper, you can just plasti-dip them black...

Black fender flares are primarily for the off road models. You can find knockoffs or go with OEM (not cheap), sample link below:

I'm going to spray mine with Raptor liner, as they exhibit reappearing artifacts from the molding process. Tired of polishing it out... plus, the rears are pretty chewed up from offroading.

I'm going to modify my process from the above link by using Raptor adhesion promoter and hanging them when I spray.

 

I've had plasti dip on mine for 3+ yrs now. No issues whatsoever and you can't tell the difference. You just have to prep right and plasti dipping comes out great.

 

Any OEM Toyota site has them and the dealer. The full set is $800 plus. the below link is for ONE.

You are better off trying to trade for Off-road (link below), Plastidip, Raptor line or have them vinyl wrapped.

Yep! If you have fender flares Plastidip works great!

 

Fuck the black fender flares! I had mine painted to color match the truck before I even drove it off the lot.


The black will fade over time and turn gray.

 

Traded another Tacoma for color-matched as well as you can't ever have enough Voodoo Blue

Ha! Unfortunately I'm trying to keep the truck as lightweight as possible since I've got to tow the travel trailer regularly. Damn [lack of] payload capacity can ruin some of the fun mods.

 

Where did you get the mirror caps?

 

Just ordered black OEM ones from this seller on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/274796146273 and installed the blacked out turn signals from some other aftermarket company. Wanted MESO versions, but they were out of stock at the time.

Think you might be the first person to notice the mirror caps! A little subtle detail I threw on there that's easy to miss.

 

Do the flares have body clips behind them in addition to the bolts on the bottom edge? Was just curious as I will be removing mine from my TRD Sport to have them coated with Line-X. TIA!

Did you remove them to plastidip or did it right on the truck? Have been considering this route before I splurge on factory ones to replace my painted flares..

I have plastidip on my flares and I just painted them while they were still on the truck.
I covered the body panels in tape and painters plastic. Make sure to get the flares really clean using alcohol or a good cleaner.

The only issue is on the driver rear you have to be very careful when filling up with gas. If you drip gas on the plastidip it will wreck the plastidip.
Also if you off-road in the woods they are very easy to pinstripe.

Mine are holding up pretty well for just about a year but I'm going to probably have to redo them again this summer or maybe remove them and Rhino Line them.

 

My Friend had his flares, scoop, and front bumper wrapped section done is a semi-gloss and looks awesome.

 

Wrap won’t show gas drips or scratches as easy as plastidip.
