I am open to suggestion, but something like that. I like the 30 and use it a lot. but there are some well known issues that I would love to alleviate. but gutted is not a problem. Switchable Wattage would be amazing, but not expected. Like to lose the Cab hum, and the singing tube wires, at the very least. I have seen some really interesting vids on the YT. very intrigued.
My 50 is from the early 90's never had any problem until it just died (rode hard and put away wer. Need a ressurection for it.

I have a Guild F-30R that is slowly creeping into the needing of a neck reset territory. It is from the Westerly RI plant made in 2001 and its amazing how many people do not want to touch it. They sealed over the neck joint on these when putting the finish on so it is a pretty involved process to remove the neck. The quotes I've gotten are ridiculous and high enough of a cost to just leave it in the case.

I have a Yamaha F450 in a similar situation. Still plays just fine and sounds decent. Intonation is a little off though. The problem with acoustics is everything is pretty much set in place at the factory, pocketed, set and sealed. It will either be a gem or a rock. any significant rework will usually require deconstruction which will likely cause more issue than it corrects. However, being Tonewood, humidity will cause it to move quite a bit. then things like the grain direction and density start to become a factor. There are adjustable acoustics out there, but you cant beat one that is just built properly. They will need no adjustment, and sound better and better as they age.
Take the repair cost as your budget for the next acoustic. When searching for the next, make sure the intonation is spot on, and the action is as smooth and effortless as possible, and the sound sings to you. Store and maintain it as properly as possible and hope for the best.
    :)

I have built guitars and pedals. Have not done an amp other than modding a Peavey 6505. Gotta be careful with amps, the caps store energy.

I’ve taken a couple non-economical to repair super champ xd’s for friends before and turned them into Princeton reverbs. Haven’t dug into a classic 30 before, seems like it would be a good candidate for a similar treatment; either a trainwreck rocket or matchless lightning; something in that el84 space.

I don't much care for doing mods or repairs on amps like that though. Layered PCB and fragile ribbon connectors are not my friends, lol.

I'm just coming off a bit of an extended hiatus (shoulder injury sidelined my playing for a while, and with that my motivation to build amps), but have built quite a few amps over the years.

Close to wrapping up a spitfire sort of clone that I started after finding a box of old leftover spare parts - my original idea was to have something kind of british and more modern voiced, but then stuff it into a 5E3 sized chassis and cab... however, that idea backfired when the cab came in with slightly smaller internal dimensions than anticipated (output transformer would make contact with the speaker frame); so back tracked a bit and started building a cab out of a nice chunk of maple I found at a local wood shop.

    Thats mighty purty!!
From the vids I have seen, folks were basically gutting them completely and reusing the boards with all new upgraded components and real wiring. even removing features and reconfiguring the witch and knob function altogether.
The wires holding the tubes have a tendency to ring out with certain frequencies. its surprisingly loud.... my biggest issue.

That's basically what I did with the super champs; removed all the internals, so essentially just reusing the chassis and cab (and any other salvageable components) as donors for a hand wired build.

Very cool. That maple looks great. Gonna be classy.

I am also building an amp, but no where near as fancy. It's a cigar box amp. Wanted to try a leather dye technic I have been working on that I used on a guitar I just built.

Dood, a cigar box amp should really be paired up with a cigar box guitar...I'm only quoting protocol here

    Build a cigar box guitar...

    Do the right thing

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Hells yeah! I can see your rocking duck hunt as well.

    Thanks.

Keep us updated on your build. Would love to see it finished. Are you go gonna port it or fully enclose it? Just curious. I don't get to talk to other builder much.

    Oh it's gonna happen.

I gotta finish up some more projects first, but it's gonna happen. But once I find a good cigar box I can start getting an idea of whats gonna happen.

are there any Les Paul history aficionados here? My '93 STD has an Ebony fretboard. nothing really corroborates this. I contacted Gibson, and they said, by the serial #, it should have a Rosewood FB. Very definitely does not. they did note that it holds a 490 and a 498 in the Bridge. I have spent tons of time researching to find out more about this, but to no avail. Heard tell of a few here and there, but very few. Seems it is becoming more of a unicorn than I originally thought.

    Anyone?

Probably not the case here; but sometimes rosewood can be very dark and almost mimic ebony. Not sure if that's plausible here or not? I have a friend with a tele that has a really dark rosewood fretboard that I've mistaken for ebony at first glance.

Just finished up yesterday. Will be working on some demo clips sometime in the near future.

I do wish I'd made it a little less wide... but my initial plan was to use as much of the single board as I could with minimal waste. The only parts of the cab that didn't use the board is the upper back panel and the speaker baffle (which is baltic birch ply). (also, there's supposed to be dress washers on those back panel screws; but grabbed the wrong size somehow; so they're just loosely buttoned up at the moment until I can run to the hardware store).

Speakers are 2x10 WGS Veteran and a Celestion G10; planning on leaving it open, as happy with the sound and bass response as is, and leaves space for tube ventilation. Tubes are GZ34 Rectifier, 2 6p14-ev power tubes (el84 equivalent), and 2 12ax7 preamp. Simple volume/tone/master volume controls.

Yeah, I have seen a few in that realm. This is definitely ebony, jet black, and no real discernable grain to speak of. The same trapezoid inlay as per typical. I will try and post a pic when I can.

    I dig it. Looks great.

I forgot you where building a combo and not just a cab. I got one of those Veteran 30's in a Peavey 6505. They sound awesome. Maybe even better than the Celestion they copy.

    Is it heavy?
