    My brother-in-law has a 2020 Ford Ranger FX4.
The FX4 trail mode can be use in 2 Wheel high, 4-H & 4- L.

The Tacoma crawl control only can be use in 4-Low. Our rear locker works only in 4-low , And recommends not over 5 mph. Plus to disengage once free . Not design for long periods.

The Ford Ranger system works just like the crawl control on the Tacoma. But more versatile!
There rear locker is also more versatile. Works in 2-H ,4-H & 4-L. Plus add the TCS

Yep, sell the Tacoma and when Ford craps out you'll be "crawling" back to Toyota.

I don't understand why Toyota does that. I can only lock my rear diff in 4lo. But the Pre-Runners will let you lock the diff and they are only 2wd. I also have a F150 which works much like the Ranger. My Tacoma is a great truck, but Ford's 4X4 operation is much better.

And my next truck may well be a Ranger. They have a lot going for them. My brother has one as does a neighbor. They are getting 25 mpg with a mix of city/hwy driving with a MUCH more powerful drivetrain. They are rated to tow 7500 lbs and actually have the payload to do it. Both my brother and neighbors 4X4 crew cab trucks have over 1500 lbs payload vs 1000-1100 on a comparable Tacoma.

I have the same engine and 10 speed transmission in my 2020 Explorer. It is the real deal with lots of low end torque and the ability to go from 40 to 80 mph in a hurry if you need to merge into traffic. Combine that with mid to upper 20's mpg and you have a winner. My Explorer averaged 28 mpg over a recent 3800 mile road trip.

Ford has been making the EcoBoost engines for 12 years now. They had some minor issues the 1st 2 years, but those issues were corrected via recall's. Virtually all of those are still on the road and doing just fine.

Thank you I had to laugh, about wanting to buy my truck. I had my rear passenger brakes locking up after it gets wet, being to the dealer 4 -5 times. Locking up while driving away from a stop.
Had new e-cables replace , it help, but once I learn the causes. I will be keeping my Tacoma.

I like how the Tacoma crawl control works, I live on a coffee farm , get to play with it.
My brother-in-law stop by this morning with his FX4 , I was curious of the FordRanger TM .

They have a more functional system. And the lockers works in more modes. And less limited.

I do not about care for the Ford.

A good friend has own many Toyota 4x4s. Now looking at the2023 Ford Ranger Raptor. W/ Front and rear lockers.
Watch a few videos in Australia Ranger Raptors…impressive.

I prefer long beds , due to my camping and fishing style.

Do they make a Ford Ranger FX4 in long bed?
The Tacoma TRD OR offers in SB and long beds.

I love the Ranger Raptor but cannot fathom what sort of insane price tag they will come with. As a die hard Tacoma fan, one must admit that Toyota needs to step up their game a bit. Especially when considering the Pro. Even the Colorado ZR2 comes with front and rear lockers.

I wouldn't mind having an FX4 Ranger. The 2023 or when ever the facelift comes out, I don't think it's all new, probably enough to call it all new. Will probably get a lot of attention.I Toyota trucks, and Ford trucks. The thing I like about Toyota trucks is, or was their simplicity, but Toyota seems to be getting away from that.

Manufacturers of 4x4 that offers factory front and rear lockers , will gain more buyers. This can be a huge selling point to the more hard core off roaders.
Even boat owners who launch there own boats, will find front and rear lockers a huge advantage.

Toyota may need to offer front and rear lockers?

Even just a rear locker usable in 4HI would be nice.

For my self the many fishing spots I go to do not require lockers. But a locker make a great insurance policy. and having front and and rear lockers, doubles the insurance. Lol

    This.

Being a Toyota site there will absolutely be bias, but Ford has put literally multiple MILLIONS of EB engines on the roads and the highways aren't littered with broken down versions every time you try to drive somewhere.

In the recent CR reliability rankings the Tacoma placed below the Ranger and the Ridgeline.

Give Ford credit where credit is due. Being able to use the locker in 4HI is a nice bonus.

The Ford Ranger FX4 The rear locker can be use in 2H drive.
There is a video of a Ranger in snow on a small incline testing the Ranger in TCS , TCS and 2W lockers on, TCS off and 2W lockers only , 4W with rear lockers off and with rear locker on.

Tacoma crawl control cannot do what the Ford Ranger FX4 (TM)Trail Management can. Also the speeds on ( TM) 2H & 4H can be set up to 20 mph, 4L is up to 10 mph. Plus you can add more speed just by pressing the gas petal (limited to max speeds) . If 4H TM is set at 4 mph but want more speed in this section of the road, just press the gas petal to increase the speed , back off, goes back to 4 mph. Does not turn off the TM.

Ford Ranger Raptor prices “shown” that I saw, started at $44,000 to as high as $85,000. Options? 2023 May have a TB V-6? Once the 2023 Raptors is in the show rooms of dealers, the true pricing will be known. Ford Corp is getting lots of inquiries for the Raptors.

Tacomas 4x4 system is wildly dated, as is most of the truck. We're lucky we have apple car play on Toyotas.

That said, that ford system will be a lot harder to repair in 10 years. I'd take a boring Toyota any day.

We understand your “liking for the Tacoma!” I am not a Ford fan. But I will buy a better design 4x4 , no matter the brand. The Rivian 4x4 system is unbeatable, video by a engineer claiming this. Can be lower to 8 inches and lifted up to 13 inches 0ff the ground. But I live off the grid, And the Rivian is out of my price range.

I always find this comment funny. You do know there are hundreds of thousands of fords 10 years and older on the road right?
