    Dear all,

I got my brand new 2022 TRD sport earlier this month. almost 3 weeks. I found something I don't know if it is an issue or not.

Basically, during parking or starting. When I change gears from P to D, R to D, D to R. etc. I can feel the whole vehicle jerks as soon as the gear is shifted. I don't know if it is an issue or not, as this is a brand new Tacoma, automatic transmission.

So folks, is this an issue or not?

I appreciate all your opinions, thanks!!

Not an issue, mines more noticeable when shifting from P to R. You'll get used to it. Do you park on an incline? That's usually when I notice mine, level ground doesn't seem to effect it as much

Hey Betrayus. It doesn't really matter if its incline or not. It jerks on flat ground as well

It's just the Tacoma being eager to "go" and get driving.

It's a truck they are a little more firm with stuff like this.

Typically its more harsh when its first started, and should calm down as it warms up. Especially if the AC is on.

    Normal.

This is pretty common. It will be more pronounced when the truck is cold. Keeping firm brake pressure when shifting will help. Also its new the drive train will take some miles to break in, it'll settle down.

Also think about getting tuned once you've gotten thru the break in period (2k miles or so), Nexus/Blackhawk, CVC, KDMax to name a few of the more popular tunes. There are others but any of these will make a huge difference in your driving experience.

Curious, what is your warm engine idle rpm? It wouldn't be unheard of for it to be set a bit to high.

Mine use to do it but more pronounced when cold and going from P to R but ever since I had a KDMAX tune its gone. It also drives so much better than before and the power is more as well.

I second this. Put more pressure on the brake with your foot and it won't be so noticeable.

Also, Op, idle RPM with warm engine, no load (AC, headlights, etc. turned off), and stock tune should be between 550 and 650 RPM's for the automatic transmission.

Wonder if a little break-in will smooth it out for you. Give it a good 2,000-3,000 miles and see if it doesn't smooth up a bit.

Same symptom for my '21 when it was brand new. After a few thousandish miles for break in I don't have this issue anymore. Just keep firm on the brake when shifting from P to D.
