He moved back to the Midwest somewhere. I bought his medium springs for my trailer when he went with HD's

That’s a cool shot! I’ve never seen one have that cool filler under or inside it or whatever that would be called. Almost looks like another planet from Star Wars or something.

 

I don’t know what you call it either, but any time we get one up here it has like a faint rainbow up above it.

 

So shop is installing mine and they are short in lining up. What are they doing wrong? They were doing one side at a time. Is it possible they need to remove both sides and then install?

 

Is the center pin not lining up with the spring perch on the axle?

 

Lined up but the bushing hole on front isn’t lining up for the pin if pin is already in the back. Hopefully that makes sense.

 

I used to put the bolt through the shackle and the front hanger and then line up the axle under the center pins with a jack and put the u bolts on. Driveshaft will plunge easier than trying to force the leafs forward and backward with the axle attached to both sides. Doing one side at a time might be throwing it off. I don’t know if that helps haha

 

I think that’s part of the issue. Doing one at a time has it in a bind.

 

What leafs are you swapping out?

 

OME to Dobinsons

 

Would think they’d be about the same dimensions both being Australian. I think they make them for the Hilux primarily which are close to the Tacomas. Some folk’s leafs hit the shackles and have to be trimmed, but that’s a different story. Might help unbolting the other side from the axle.

 

I think that’s what their plan is in the morning. Hopefully that fixes the issue and everything bolts up fine.

 

Dobinsons springs are arched a bit more than OME, so they can be a bit harder to get in. But a shop shouldn’t have any issues installing leaf springs.

I just about always do things on my truck one side at a time, that makes it much easier for me to realign the center pin on while flopping on the ground. I also always put in the front spring eye bolt followed by the shackle bolt.

Coming from the Honda world, I’ve always found the wire tucked engine bays to be a clean look. Basically rerouting the headlight harnesses, moving the fuse box and battery, rerouting the main engine harness (and removing things not needed along the way) produces a look like this. Not my picture by the way.


Some folks go as far as rewiring the main harness to mil spec plugs and labeling every connector. My OCD approves!
