97 taco lift..

Hey guys i have a 97 taco 2.4l and i want to lift the front.. I was just going to put a coilover spacer in. What are the biggest tires i can put on the front after a 2.5 inch front lift. I have stock rims. If i need to get bigger rims what size ect

 

With the backspacing of the stock rims, I would guess you wouldn't be able to go bigger than 32x11.50's if you put a leveling kit on.

With the 2.4L engine, doesn't that mean that your truck is 2wd? And if so, why are you trying to lift it?

 

I dont think they make a 2.5 inch spacer for our truck do they? i did spindles (3 inch) on my 98 xtra cab and stayed with stock wheels and tires for mileage reasons, but fabtech says 31's i think with just spindles. i was gunna install daystar coil spacers at the same time but i was fighting the coils so bad i just said eff it its not worth the actual 3/4'' ill get from them. needless to say now they are paper weights. BTW spindles are much easier than coils, and better IMO, and it seems you never get the claimed lift out of the soft material coil spacers.

 

im looking at theses I want to lift my truck because I live in az and don't have the cash for a quad. i take my taco out in the dirt all the time and there are places where i need the lift i don't do anything crazy to be needing 4wd yett and i'm a collage student trying to have fun and a VERY SMALL CASH FUND FOR MY TRUCK. i would love to do a spindle lift but i don't have the cash on the count that i need to buy tires after the lift and a new windshield. Unless you guys know anybody willing to sell me a used lift kit for cheap or i could work it off.

 

Did you have to get an alignment after you did that lift?? did the mpg change any? how does the ride feel?

 

i lost roughly 2.5-3.5 mpg just from the lift with zero other changes, kinda bummed me out but the extra capabilities are worth it. The ride is identical, with spindles, zero suspension changes. The spindle is simply lower on the knuckle giving that much more clearance.

this is true, however i got lucky, mine was still in spec.

BTW i got my spindles second hand for a hundred bucks here on TW. you can find um cheap if your patient.. And quick.

why do you want to lift your 2wd truck? save up your college funds and invest in 4wd later in the future man. its not worth it.

 

Well im not going to do the lift especially if i loose 3.5 mpg, gas is too expensive.

 

SkitZo... I have a 97 also and i put a 3" toytec lift on mine and im running 33/12.5/15 with not a lot of loss in my fuel mileage and minimal rub only on the passenger side when I hit a pot hole or something where there is quick "slamage" of the tire into the wheel well. But i am 4WD and have the 3.4L but dont know if that makes a difference. Either way 4wd is the better choice for wheeling but i have gone out with many 2WD tacomas and they do just fine for the most part and if they get stuck... the 4WD pull em out. So i say spend the money on what you want and make your college life more exciting haha. Oh btw im a college student also and pay for all my own things so i understand your money dilemma lol.

 

It's plenty worth it. think about how many times you actually use 4 wheel drive off road.. Surely 4wd will get you much farther, but a stock five lug is low enough to scrape high curbs when parking. A little ground clearance goes a LONG way in the dirt.. Add a good set of tires, and your ready to go. even more is long travel and a locker. its the same deal with a tacoma prerunner, its 2 wheel drive with a locker. besides it puts more skill in your driving.. Its fun!! just dont plan on doin much "crawling" with it.

 

I just want to tar up the desert and have a some fun!!

 

Hey skitzomatic I got a daystar 2.5in spacer lift in my room gathering dust.. where in az are you? We might be able to make a deal if they fit, they came off my 04 3.4 4x4

 

Dang. How bout I toss it on the lathe and grind it down and make it fit ehh?
