That saggy conduit is not quite as bad as my sloped conduit :boink::thumbsup::rain:

Best part is it isn't conduit. It's just 100 amp aluminum SE cable.

Thanks Rusty! I really have all those hand me down tools to credit everything. The table saw and miter saw are hand me downs from my late grandfather. Although the Delta saw is worn slap out and not cutting right. Bearings in the motor are worn and the clutch brake are shot. It's remodeled lots of homes over the years so it's expected.

Picked up a Kill-a-Watt P3 at Harbor Freight and got a plug-in to medium twist base adapter from Home Depot and went a little test happy checking out the draws of all of the lights in my house.

(Yes terrible picture due to the bright GE LED security bulb murdering levels)

What does this do for me?

    Uh...

Helps improve my efficiency and make more conscientious decisions?

I'll get back to y'all on that one...

But I think it's pretty cool, going to be testing my appliances and what not next.

It's a really cool tool to play with, supposedly you can enter your price per kilowatt from your power bill and get a better figure of how much any particular device is costing you per month.

The amp draw indicator is also pretty neat because you can get an idea of how much load there is on a particular circuit by adding up all the amp draws.

More and more I'm finding out that stuff doesn't draw anywhere near as much power as I thought it did.

Though I do find it interesting that the dimmest bulb I have (which is an Edison type incandescent bulb) is still my most power hungry light, even more so than my almost too bright LED work lamps.

Don't sell your skills short. I'm hard pressed to make a straight cut on any piece of wood it seems -- don't like working with wood (or on houses) much either.

Most of that older equipment is designed so the bearings can be replaced. A little cash for bearings and an hour work might have it cutting like new.

Probably not a bad idea. I got alot of quarter round to cut and install in the house when I paint it in the winter. Might as well get a parts diagram now and order the parts I need now so they might be in by then. Ahhh, gotta love the supply chain...

Although it could be something as simple as needing a new blade. The blade has probably been on there since 2012 and it was a used, but sharpened blade that a customer never picked up at my old work :anonymous:

I have several new blades, but in the move I think I misplaced them as a quick 5 minute check I didn't find them. Guess I'll need to look harder...

Incandescent bulbs are really good heaters that give off some visible light as a by product.

That said time is the biggest factor impacting your electric bill.

You are billed by the killowatt hour = 1000 watts consumed for 1 hour
    Examples:
    1000 watt heater x 1 hour = 1 kwh
    100 watt bulb x 10 hours = 1 kwh
    10 watt bulb x 100 hours = 1 kwh

Be aware of electricity thieves, anything that is warm all the time and stealthy about consumption like routers, cable boxes or the Satellite:
    57 watts x 24 hours per day x 30 days = 41040 watts consumed = 41 kwh

Compare to the typical dryer that has a high profile for energy use but is really only consuming electricity when it is actually working for you.
    Dryer:
    3000 watts x 1 hour use x 10 loads per month = 30000 watts consumed = 30 kwh

Like the truck it's always going to be a "work in progress" but I'd say pretty awesome.

It is a good point though, I might get another digital timer like the one I use for my wake up lights to turn my router off when I'm away.

I have a smaller air compressor that I want to wire into my garage. I have the 12 gauge wire for it, but I am unsure of the breaker I will need.

    Motor Pic.jpg

This is on the motor, can I assume that I need a 15a breaker?

On a 13 amp motor startup will be killer, might actually need a 30 amp breaker and 10 ga wire. That's what most home 220 air compressors are on. Soon as it kicks on it'll likely trip that 15amp breaker.
