    I just need to add a bandsaw to the list; the HF one with swag table is high on my list.

    haha I never really had a plan for it just got drunk and said yolo

    .the first time i formally told someone local it was disastrous so I've avoided really acknowledging it for fear of the same

    The porta band with mini table? Or the gravity one with cutting fluid?

    Both are pretty solid, cut a ton with the gravity setup when I was in the fab shop for a summer internship

    Stuff. Also things.
    @Abeyancer

    I’m an RF guy trying to get up to speed on energy conversion and power electronics design, so I’m definitely NOT a digital or mixed-signal designer. But like @treyus30 mentioned, TI has a ton of reference articles online. You might also look into STMicro as well.

    I can tell you that getting a well-functioning board built is way more than just knowing how the schematic needs to work to get the function you’re looking for. There is certainly some black magic and tribal knowledge involved when it comes to noise mitigation and signal quality, especially if you have power and logic signals in the same design. And the higher the clock speeds, the more the trace widths, board thicknesses, ground planes and impedances start to really matter.

    I don’t want to dissuade you at all, so I hope it doesn’t come across that way. I can also look at my old books and see if anything might be helpful to you. Good luck!

    Good for you, gotta start somewhere! Sometimes you've just gotta YOLO ya know?

    Bummer about your disastrous results :( not everyone will treat you that way

    And people that can't accept it, with an open mind, and without letting it change the dynamic of your relationship with him or her, can fuck off :burp:

    I haven't used either, but I was referring to their portable one. Swag offers a table that bolts right up to it (or other popular brands).

    I'd use it for cutting round or square tube when needed and even flat stock where it wouldn't make sense to use a plasma cutter.

    Ours was set up that way too. Except my PLC instructor tried to set us up for engineering the best he could. I ended up as one, so I guess his methods worked.

    Yup. Mostly desk stuff now. Occasional site visits but most of our programming/engineering is done without ever seeing the machine/process in person. Just a lot of phone calls to make sure Im on the same page as the customer.

    That is wonderful information, not dissuading at all! So allow me to ramble here ..

    Where I'm headed in this train of thought is needing to expand into more electric equipment for my company. The really big contenders have hicycle stuff in the market but guys hate it cause they cheap out on alot of stuff and the bodies break more frequently or they can't get them serviced. Or they hate the Asia market stuff for all those reasons and because it burns out too quickly with too many corners cut in manufacturing the circuit boards. ... I know this is going to sound funny but I don't know how else to word it... I want to be able to read a circuit board like a musician reads sheet music.

    Im smart enough and have educated myself well enough to know what it's doing, but I'd like to be able to take apart someone else's design and understand how it's doing the what

    That's awesome man, congratulations! I don't know if it's stupidity, obstinence, or personal fear, but I don't think I could do that without being able to at least watch the machine/process get installed. I guess i just gotta be hands on with bringing my brain babies into this world:laughing:

    It definitely took time to get that level of confidence. If something has a lot of high speed I/O or servo stuff we'll go out for the install. But we do a lot of sewage lift stations and wastewater stuff so it gets kinda repetitive. Lead/Lag pumps and whatnot.

    As long as you're under the GHz, you shouldn't have any serious board issues. At hundreds of MHz, just keep traces short and as equal length as possible and I'd think you'd be fine. Cross at 90deg and keep data lines as far apart as possible.
    RF board design is a high specialty, beyond just RF, beyond just circuits, but doesn't sound like you need to worry for your use case

    @jubei feel free to correct

    Ohhhh okay, you sound like a larger more sophisticated version of the panel shop I left. But we never did complete systems, however integrator companies would hire us to built a part of the system

    Yea RF is above and beyond what I would ever need.. monitoring feedback and controlling a servo motor is about as complicated as I would get. It would be cool to make my own VFD since all high frequency construction motors regardless of brand need one to run their saws/drills.

    But dumb constructions not understand big words and only know marketing wank. I'm trying to make a "Hicycle powerpack"

    Although noise mitigation is deadly important for a VFD:homer:

    Lol! I gave up on electrics when I was a wee one trying to fix the speed control servo on my RC car. Not enough cash to buy a new one and too stupid to fix it.
