From 2019 to 2022 observations

Got an offer I couldn't turn down to trade my 2019 sport for a 2022 sport. Old truck was a short bed just standard options. New truck is a long bed with advanced technology, sunroof, leather seats and JBL upgraded radio.

The power drivers seat was worth the upgrade alone. Much more comfortable seating position. Big improvement.

Transmission shifts as well as any other vehicle I have ever driven. Much better than the 2019. I had flashed the 2019 which did considerably improve the shift points. Still the new truck shifts smoother and doesn't hunt at all. (At least not yet)

Wasn't sure I would like the long bed. It was the only truck on the lot which was available and the more I looked it over the more I liked it. The biggest advantage I have found so far is the ride is considerably smoother that the 2019 with the short bed. Maybe there are other reasons for this, such as the new tires but it defiantly doesn't have the choppy ride I was used to.

The remote app is kind of disappointing. It has only worked intermittingly and seems to not work more often than it should. The head unit is a little disappointing. For the top of the line Tacoma audio system it lacks in the sound department. Not bad but not what I think it should be. It's rather clunky to operate the android auto. Sometimes disconnects for no reason.

Other than the last few annoyances, I am really happy with the upgrade.

Just wanted to throw this out there and see if anyone has similar thoughts.

I had a 2017 that was totaled and now have a 2022. Overall it’s about the same, but I feel like a lot of the plastic pieces feel ever so slightly cheaper. Wouldn’t surprise me if they thinned things out a bit bc 2022.

 

the difference is 2 numbers they did remove the cabside bedrail, added power seats, ripped out any cd player option, added a more horrible usb mp3 player component.

 

I went from a 2018 to a 2021. The differences between the two that have made it most worth the upgrade:

1. A/T shift logic improvement.
2. LED headlights.
3. Head unit upgrade.
4. Power driver seat.
5. Grille redesign.
6. 3.5l coolant crossover pipe upgrade (pretty sure the 2018 was a victim to that leak).
7. Dual zone climate control standard on V6's.

Not really any cons worth mentioning. Yes, I lost a small cubby on the dash and a cubby in the bed...but haven't missed them much.

 

Great looking truck there. I also chose a 2022 Sport for me, but short bed so it fits in the garage. I agree the long bed looks better and is more practical. I wouldn't have mind the sunroof but there was none available.

 

If I get back into a Tacoma, it’ll have to be a long bed. Nice truck, more payments in the long run, but your happy, with everything. Congratulations.

 

Yep, i'm not a big radio listener, but i did enjoy my tundras cd player on long trips. Kind of pissed toyota deleted it on my 2020. I don't give a crap about the rest of the stuff like mentioned above. I've got a bunch of cd's i can no longer use in this truck.

 

8. Added auto on headlights
9. Got rid of chrome around cup holders
10. Removed change cubby to left of steering wheel.

I forgot to mention the Toyota Connect stuff, but I'm not entirely sure if I find that to be a good thing or not. It adds some nice functionality, but there's certainly privacy/exploitation concerns. Calling it a wash.
