If not my favorite liquor (whisky/scotch/bourbon) of all time, it's in the top 3. Hard to find nowadays and when you do, ridiculously priced ($130 +/-). Used to be in the $80 range. I snap them up when I am lucky enough to find them at low retail. Think I have 4 or 5 now. Crack one open every 6 months or so.

There have been like 4 of them sitting in a local store forever. $105/ea. I’ve always wondered if it would be any good.

I would say find a bar and try it there first before dropping a lot of money on (any) $$ bottle. Read reviews to get an idea of what to expect (although you should ignore those stupid descriptions that say things like "hint of Corinthian leather" or "dew kissed meadow grass on a warm spring morning". For fucks sake.

    First review I read:

“There is a bright tropical fruit note that is reminiscent of a sunny, summer day picnic…”

    For fuck’s sake indeed.

You guys are speaking my language. Sometimes...a lot of the time...most of the time, even, professional (or even heady amateur) spirit critics disappear entirely up their own asses.

The best part? It is almost certainly horse shit.

Im fine with the generalities. Spicy, sweet, burn, smooth, light, oily, etc.

But rum cake with hints of coal mine dust, 6 white grapes and 1 red one, new magic markers, and Smucker's brand squeeze bottle caramel? With a light kerosene and chili powder afterbirth? Yeesh.

    I prefer this approach:

Regarding the horse shit part, all these people reviewing bourbon must have incredibly discerning palates to be able to define five to ten separate and distinct aromas and flavors, many of which are quite obscure. I can usually identify about three.

When they drink pink lemonade do they talk about the beautiful married taste of the lemon and raspberry profiles? It just tastes like lemonade to me.

My favorite is when they use behavioral adjectives. "Begrudgingly smokey in the finish."

Really? What does it taste like when a whiskey's finish is smokey but doesn't really want to be? And how do you tell it apart from the enthusiastically smokey ones?

I just realized there’s a Weller 12 in this photo. Wouldn’t I love to trade you something for that.

Back in NC I can find the blue label (straight), red label (Cabernet Sauvignon finish) and white label (French oak barrel finish) but I’ve never tried any of them.

The black label is a Limited Edition Double Barrel, whatever that means. It was very good. I bought myself a bottle and one for the father and brother in law because I’ve never seen this one in NC.

Went over for a second night of bourbon sampling at the bosses house.

The Wolcott BIB was really good. As a wheated fan I expected the Woodford Reserve Wheated to be better. The Uncle Nearest was the best of the group.

I was so disappointed in the Woodford Wheated. It’s the worst wheated bourbon I’ve had.

I am sorry to here this. Woodford Wheated Whiskey is one of my favorites. Maybe you got a bad bottle.

It’s possible, or maybe a bad neck pour and it needed to air out. One of these days I’ll try it again.

Woodford for me has always been the definition of average. I don't think I've had a single pour of it that wasn't completely forgettable.

I have no idea why its so popular other than being widely available and having a vaguely classy sounding name.

Woodford is really good at being woodford….classic tasting notes, very approachable and great price point. They sell tons of it for a reason, and they aren’t going to change. They have their special releases for experimental stuff.

never my first choice, but I’m never mad at it
