I never owned any tacoma's till this one. Its a harsher ride than my gen1 tundra. That truck spoiled me ride comfort wise. At least its settle in more at 16k miles now. It no longer has that sudden spike of a hit when cruising over a sharp bump. The trucks suspension works compliant enough now. Dealer told me allow for 5k miles for a better ride...i think it took at least double. Believe it or not this truck likes my crappy dirt road better. You could feel the suspension going through it travel gobbling up the bigger stuff.

I've wondered about any "break in" period of the shocks mainly. My old 2018 rode great on rough roads. Had a nice dampened feel to it and did pretty well over washboards.

My truck is good over washboard the quicker you go. Seems the shocks work well with the spring rate...at least better in those conditions than on an asphalt highway.

My 2022 SR does the same thing. 4x4 double cab v6 automatic with 635 miles. 2022 not on the TSB. dealer said it isn't broken in yet. Some owners report same problem that did resolve itself after about 1,200 miles +/- so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I wonder if my 2022 has the leaf springs indicated in the TSB?

i had this issue the first 5000 miles or so. it takes the computer a LONG time to learn everything. probably doesn't help that i kept switching between octane grades at first. finally stopped and stuck with 87 and the ECU finally learned properly. the ecu gets very confused with different gas quality. I thought something was wrong with it for the longest time but it eventually went away along with the gear hunting, shift flares, and rev hanging.

my 2020 2wd did have the deceleration vibs and the rear leafs felt a lot softer than my 2021 4x4. no vibes on the 2021. i think they put softer springs on the 2wd trucks.

Well I don't drive much maybe 3,000 miles a year. 5,000 If I go see family 650 miles one way.
I figure this will be my last vehicle unless it's wrecked.

Any more updates on this issue from anyone? TSB fix, axle shims, etc? All for stock height trucks.

I'd like to try a fix but honestly don't know where to start. It's stock height. Maybe a diff drop just because it's easy and could be a good "test" just to see if those angles might be the issue. It's quick and takes nothing to remove it. Axle shims? Really none of this should be needed on a stock truck!

Long story short I had a 2021 SR5 V6 2WD that had this issue. Was in the shop for 11 straight days and was told that my leaf springs were out of spec. They changed them and the issue was gone for the most part. I had such a bad experience, I ended up trading it back in for another brand new Tacoma. What's the definition of insanity again? lol

No issues so far with the new one 12,000 miles in.

Same now for my 2020 sr5. Seems to take over 10k miles for it to ride much smoother. Its great on unimproved dirt roads.

Interesting. I had a 2018 SR with the Hitachi shocks that rode very smooth/supple but my 2021 also has Hitachi shocks but rides very jittery. You can feel every little imperfection in the road. Large hits feel fine oddly. It's like the first portion on the shock's dampening is just really firm. They need to go. Also, this driveshaft vibe needs to go too!

Same i've found. I think its even more confusing for these computers when you start using the ECT and S modes all the time instead of just driving in the D mode like normal. I never did that stuff from day one, and couldn't be happier with my trucks performance. More i think of this, some guys can be their own worse enemy always running in the wrong modes.

My 2018 Limited just started this 30-10 mph “rumble strip” vibration. It started at 55k. New tires (Bridgestone Altezza) at 50k. These tires are a harder compound than the original Michelins, but I’m sure I would have noticed the issue of it started with the tire change. I changed the front brakes just in case and rotated the tires but no difference. Took it to the dealer today and the verified the issue and will proceed with the TSB and removing the driveshaft and testing. As of now I’m waiting to find out if my Toyota Care extended care will cover this. If they won’t cover it I’ll consider this warranty a disappointment much like the truck has been (to some degree). 8 Toyotas now and this is the first one that has been questionable for me. If the issue isn’t covered I might just dump it and move on.

It has 215 miles...I too have the experience of very light vibration at 15 to 25 miles per hour
I thought it was a bad wheel( being out of balance)

I kicked it up into neutral on a brand new paved section on highway..and it doesn't vibrate at all.

Has to be the transmission.or to much air pressure in the tires.or maybe that's the way it's suppose to be,just not sure.

I do know that the tire pressure stays at 39pds..seems high to me..thinking about dropping it to 35pds to see if that helps.

Meh. My tires were set to 40 psi when the problem started. When they were rotated they set them to 32 psi and the vibration remained. Certainly try it though, not much seems to be consistent with these vibrations.

Interesting. Most of us that have this, still experience it in neutral. You might do a test slowing to a stop with just the e-brake. My brand new truck had "out of round" rear drums from the factory. The dealer fixed those and it did get rid of a ton of the 30-10 MPH vibe but not all of it. Based on Toyota's TSB, they've basically admitted that it's driveline and rear spring related but it seems like a fix for one person, doesn't always work for another. My truck for example, seems to ride a lot better when I have four people and some bikes on the back.

My tires are at 34 psi now and I'll be testing them at 32 this week. They're 265/70r17 Wildpeak SL load rated. At 39, they make the truck ride super firm. I've heard all types of fixes from people; installing more weight via a shell or rack and RTT, axles shims, CB drop, ECGS Bushing, different rear shocks, different rear springs, stronger axle hangers, one-piece driveline, on and on. Like a shot in the dark!

I just got one of those digital angle gauges and will be checking my driveline angles against Spicer's driveline manual, which another member here recommended. I'm very curious to see what I find. I also plan on testing a CB drop kit and some axle shims, depending on what I find out with my angle gauge. I'm also looking at installing new shocks (maybe with new front springs), raising the front 1" but leaving the rear at 0". Different shocks in the rear might change this because I think a lot of it has to do with harmonic vibrations transmitting around the rear of the truck.

Toyota extended care is not going to cover this since no component is failing necessarily. It’s more of a “Tacoma quirk” which is the dealers answer for many things. I e sort of had it with The Tacoma.

Even if they did the TSB fix, it's a roll of the dice that it would even work. Seems that in fact, it doesn't work for many on here. Supposedly the newest trucks, mine included, should already have the update springs but.... many still vibrate. I've almost sold mine a few times. Carvana offered to give me exactly what it cost me, with taxes and all, a month ago but I didn't take it. I checked again a week ago and it went down $4,000 so I'm still holding onto it. Their prices fluctuate. Problem is, what to replace it with? An outdated Ranger, mini van looking Ridgeline, an interesting but odd and low Maverick, a Frontier none of us would even consider? I get your frustration with your truck though.

Different category but for $40k I'd take a Lightening Pro but you can't even order one last I checked. It'd be quite a wait for one plus I can't fit it in my garage. A Maverick Lightening will surely come in a year or two. With a small lift and better tires and wheels, this future model would likely fit all of my needs, especially if it's a plug-in hybrid but again, a super long wait.....

Solid reply and I thank you. You hit the nail on the head “what to replace it with”? There isn’t another truck on the market that I care for. I won’t drive a Ridgeline, I would drive a Kia pickup before a Nissan, I like the Ram but grew up to never trust a Dodge. I wish the Tacoma could be what I hoped it is: solid like my Tundra and the 6 other Toyotas I’ve owned. The Tacoma is like the smart ass, trouble making little brother of the Tundra that gets away with everything “that’s normal for a Tacoma”…I’m just tired of that.
I could love the truck if it would at least like me back lol.
I might cash in on it through Carvanna or Vroom and pick up a beater for awhile until I figure out what I want to do.
