    Hi all,

I did my brakes the other day and followed the FSM. The FSM indicates where to grease with arrows. From what I recall seeing the FSM did not have arrows pointing to the slide pins. Is the FSM indicating that the slide pins should not be greased?

In the past I used silicone grease on the slide pins. I have had issues with my brakes sticking and I’ve seen notching in the slide pins. Idk if the grease was causing problems or what.

I am in California so we don’t have major issues with rust.

So yeah, right now my slide pins are not greased. Should I go grease them?

Yup- put some grease on them. Not silicone though- use caliper grease.

Thanks I’ll grease them. I was thinking about using sil glyde which is advertised as good for slide pins.

If it's the sil glyde specifically made for brake parts, sure. Otherwise, just stick to a grease to designed for brake parts.

I do, but I find it’s just as important to make sure true pins are CLEAN. I use a wire wheel or scotch-brite pad.

Anymore, I just order new pins with the pads. Along with retaining clips.

And they are dirt cheap. Or at least they used to be.

The last set I bought came with them. But then again, I bought a whole package deal.

Same, I’m working with all new OEM parts including pins and clips. Learned my lesson not to use aftermarket (centrik) garbage

I agree with everyone else, clean and grease them with caliper grease.

The issue always seems to be tapping out the original pins for the 1 st time. It's easy to peen over the ends and they won't push out at that time.

If you get the originals out, grease them!

Big trick I do professionally is spray, whack in, spray whack out. Work the penetrating fluid.

So many people on here seem to think spraying fluid makes things come loose. It's not magic, but it works well with movement.

Skip the grease, all it does is give dirt something to stick to. A few drives in the rain and it washes off anyway
Just wire brush them so they're clean

You'll notice they don't grease those retainer pins at the factory, and factory brakes last 60k miles

In my opinion grease only goes on sliders that are protected from the elements by a rubber boot. Like slider pins on a floating caliper
