why would they kill the 4Runner? That seems to sell fairly well?

The new Frontier exists and is the #2 best selling midsize. It's not going away for a long time.

Yes, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything, especially considering them claiming the Frontier has brought new attention to the Titan. Considering the last Frontier lasted for about 14 years, I wouldn't put too much weight into it just yet. But, like I said, they also remained vague in their quote to TFL. "Beyond" could mean 2030, 2040, or even 2023.

Toyota 4Runner buyers would buy a DCSB Tacoma, it's still a Toyota. Who really needs a 4Runner, what does a 4Runner do that a Tacoma, Sequioa, Tundra, Rav4, Highlander, GX460, or LX600 can't do?

4Runner is cool, but there are alot of Toyota products that could fill the void if 4Runner got the axe.

Correct. That doesn't mean it is cancelled, per se, it just means they're not developing a next generation at the moment. But, time will tell.

what they should have done is combine the 4Runner, FJ and Land cruiser into an ultimate lifestyle SUV.

    or

Bring over the 2-door and 4 -door prado to the United States and rebadge them as 4Runner.

The prado is market leader in many countries, so I don’t think they would kill the Land Cruiser Prado

The current Prado represents the second refresh of the third generation; we in the USA are on the second generation of the GX which has seen multiple facelifts but has only undergone one major refresh. The GX sold in the US hasn’t received the updates of the refreshed international models.

The two-door model went away some time ago.

Until they start making a short cab Tacoma again, the 4Runner will still have an edge off road.

I like the Prado, it looks like a normal SUV. I prefer the look of the Prado over bothe the GX460 and 4Runner. I like the 5th gen 4Runner, and it is most likely the most offroad oriented Toyota currently sold in the US and Canada, and don't want to see it go away.

Currently the 4Runner is probably the expendable vehicle in Toyota's line up, as it's probably the least efficient, there are vehicles that could handle what the 4Runner is capable off. The other trucks and SUVs, might not do anything better than what the 4Runner does, but they can all go offroad, or carry five passangers.

I would expect the 4Runner to get the axe before something like the Avalon, which has to be Toyotas least popular car, and the Lexus ES or Camry could do what the Avalon does, maybe not as well as the Avalon.

I expect manufactures to decrease the amount of models they offer across the board, as sales of new vehicles decrease, prices increase, supply chains remain weak, and more electrification takes place. Even if electrification slows it's pace, I don't see aging models being replaced when there are other vehicles that can perform the same task.

I struggle to see how they can keep the V6 especially going into 2023 with the new regulations.

Nissan probably already has a replacement turbo4 in development.

If you like NA V6s and V8s buy them now, because they are gone forever.

The US regulators will be easy on the Domestic manufacturers because of nepotism. American car companies can bend the rules, but not the Japanese.

I thought the Avalon already got killed?

It would be a shame to see the 4runner go.

If they kill the 4Runner, Toyota won’t have an off road SUV anymore, no matter how much some car blog toolbags think the new Sequoia is a “poor man’s Land Cruiser,” which it isn’t.

honestly, I’m more surprised that Toyota put so much effort into redesigning the Tundra and Sequoia when they are an inconsequential share of the full-size truck and SUV market.

From the recent sales figures the Tacoma is #1 by a large margin, the Ranger #2 at half the units of the Tacoma, then the Colorado and Frontier at half the units of the Ranger.

What Toyota really should do is bring back the land cruiser to the US market. I don't know if it would truly fit in US market but I defiantly think it would be cool to bring back. Or maybe a Hilux

They justify it by saying that they are bringing it back as the LX600, which I think the cheapest one is gonna be a little over $90,000. But I’m guessing you won’t find one for less than $100,000.

I absolutely agree with you. I love seeing old Land Cruiser out and about. I got a buddy who got like 8 of them ranging from FJ40, FJ45, FJ60, and FJ100.

I’d be interested to see the hybrid engine from the new Sienna as an option. That’s our other vehicle and we really like it. Of course it’s academic in my case because my wife would not be happy if I even mention getting a different vehicle :ballchain: jk

I’m sure they discussed cancelling the sequoia and tundra. The Tundra sells a lot out here though(NorCal). Good luck trying to even find a used one for sell at a sales lot.

Well, a land cruiser was 100K too. However, the people that buy land cruisers are those Stealth Wealth ballers—People with REI shirts or Patagonia jackets who aren’t trying to be all flashy, but want a nice vehicle.

they aren’t going to buy a Lexus.

I met a lady like that at Trader Joe’s. She had then brand new 2020 Land Cruiser Heritage. She told me she bought it to replace her 2001 J100, but the J100 still ran fine, so she kept it. Predictably, She had on a Patagonia green puff Vest.
