New oil and filter every time I drive the truck. Can't risk doing any damage.

I just bought my 2022 last Saturday and I asked about a shorter “break-in” oils change, and the sales lady said it’s not necessary. HOWEVER, there is a sticker on the windshield that says the first service should be done at 5,000 and is covered.

Toyota will give you 2 free oil changes in your 2 year maintenance. If you want to do them early, then your dealer should cooperate. The manual says 10,000 and the oil should not break down by then. But I just changed mine at home at 4000 and the oil in the filter was dirty. IMO, you probably should not wait till 10,000 on the first change. There is no harm in changing sooner than 10,000 and oil and filters are not that expensive. Depending on miles and driving conditions, you could be wasting a little of your money.

First service IS 5000 mi, but it's just rotate tires, check fluids, etc. Not an oil change.

That first service will not include an oil change.

With as many of these oil threads that pop up on a weekly basis, people don’t seem to be able to read “the manual.” That should be added to cliff notes.

If ‘by the manual” means anything then you either fall into a category or you don’t.

You’re assuming that people care what the manual says, or trust it, or whatever.

    I’m definitely assuming a lot.

That’s why I don’t argue in oil change threads. Haha

I am looking to make sure the manual and techs are living in the real world so that I am not wasting money and not blowing up my truck

IMO, when it comes to oil change intervals you're gonna get a whole lot of opinions. Most of which are well meaning but often misguided, based on old evidence/info, simply anecdotal...etc. I wouldn't put ANY trust in anyone here in this thread giving you a specific mileage or time interval.

    Smartest/Safest Option:
Use a service like Blackstone to analyze your oil and get their recommendation for your interval. This way, you're getting REAL information about YOUR oil, in YOUR truck, after YOUR driving conditions. They can give you a recommendation based on real data and experience from thousands of their customers. Yes, there's a cost involved but if you're changing your own oil the total cost is still less than paying someone else to do it.

    Next Best Option:
Trust Toyota (not the dealer, but the company that designed, tested, and produced your truck). They test this stuff, they know what they're talking about. Higher mileage intervals are nothing new. A 1990 Integra (that's 30+ yrs old now) was designed from the factory with a 7,500 mile oil interval and that was with conventional type oil. There's no reason not to trust Toyota in this instance.

IMO there are no other viable options. Any specific recommendations given here should be looked at purely as opinion or maybe even the opinion of a snakeoil salesman.
