We had a guy come last year who did it in a Jeep he rented from Avis. No lift and highway tires. He did just fine. Probably the only time the locker on that thing ever got used.

I've got a Baofeng and some GMRS handhelds I can share.

Do you have a track or know where I can download a track for this? I need to plan my route to Utah probably on Wednesday. Also, I have GSMR radio but not the license, guess I can just listen. This is looking pretty cool . . .

You can talk. The range is short and I have never heard of anyone getting hassled.

If people want to. I will most likely skip sections 1 and 6.

tentative for now. I have to figure out how I'm going to use my vacation.

I have CB and dual band analog/DMR radios. I've used MURS frequencies with my friends a lot. We get some good range down there. Dust on WABDR can get really bad for everyone except the lead truck so there are times when we spread out a ways. Dust pre-filters on snorkels for the win! hahahaha

I am interested but early September getting back on the 8th. I will be in Mexico for wedding anniversary though so depends when y’all go. Also may be a hit a section thing for me and try to intersect y’all so let us know when the main group should solidifies a plan.

Can confirm. We've done sections 1-5 in a stock Sahara JL with zero issues. Like, not even sketchy issues. You can talk alternative paths though, to make it harder.

the road is easy and we should bring at least one chainsaw. We've had to move fallen tree's before. The only technical parts is if you see a double track trail going off to the side and you decide mess around on it.

I think the best part is the tiny towns where we can stop and have breakfast every once in a while. This one place had a "hangover breakfast" which was cold pizza and a beer.

What sections do we want to plan for? 1-6? 2-5? Do we want to deviate on the path to do some wheeling along the way (funny/moon rocks, etc)?

Posted to follow the thread. My truck should be here in August so I doubt I'll be able to attend, but if I can I will!

It's just not worth it to me to burn a whole week of vacation time on doing a route I've done before(effectively more than once seeing as I've both done the whole thing and gone back to explore most of the sections on their own often more than once) but I may be down to hook up for the first and/or last weekend and do whatever sections are happening then.

Edit: Comms are CB and GMRS.

There's usually enough radios kicking around to share.

The full route is about 600 miles, going slow I'd guess about 15mpg at best, so thats 40 gallons then, and average it to $5 a gallon with prices coming down a little and for round numbers and you're at $200 just doing the route alone, not counting going to the start and back home.
