Enjoy the truck and as most will say 10K is fine for most folks - but if you want 5K and the added expense gives you peace of mind - by all means - do it.

I have 176K miles on my truck and I did 10K up to a point ( I forget when - I think 100K) and then switched to every 4500 miles. I'm just wasting money, but I'm old and I don't want to leave my kids/wife too much.

I bought my wife a new 4Runner Pro in Feb; I had the oil changed at the 2K point (old habit) and will now do it every 10K miles as recommended (she stays at home and doesn't drive much). I'm older than my young pretty wife (I'm shallow yes) and I'll probably die before it is time for her to get a new vehicle, so if I'm wrong about the 10K mile interval, then so be it.

GOOD LUCK with your NEW truck, I'm certain whatever route you choose, you will be just fine.

Maybe on the subject of oil....but it will be all about "how often do you change your battery"?

I went through a long period where I was putting 50,000 a year on my vehicle used for business. I went full synthetic (or as full as you can get) from about 1995 until today. About 6 months after going synthetic I started changing the oil every 10000-12000 miles. Have not gotten rid of a vehicle in less than 150,000 miles since then, last 3 were gotten rid of after 200,000 miles. In all that time I have never had an engine related failure or problem. One of the Chevy 4.3 went from being a quart low at 10,000 to a quart low at 8,500 miles but that was at 125,000 miles. Toyota, Nissan and Honda were all faultless. Chevy had a lot of issues, but the 4.3 wasnt the culprit.

Now if I had been city driving all day, I would have changed sooner but when you climb behind the wheel and drive 80 miles before you stop it has proven to be easy miles to me. I have read that most of the wear comes on start up so let your driving habits dictate your oil changes.

Toyota says 10,000 miles. Does Toyota want your Tacoma to last forever, so you never need to buy another? Think about it.

Because you want to learn about people. In this case, it’s cultural anthropology 200: lore, superstition, and repetition.

Congrats on your new coursework. The Prof. is especially hot when he starts talking about how much he likes photographing pigs.

Dang I almost missed today's oil change thread!

PS: how big of a tire can I fit on my EV with a stock battery?
