    Hey guys ,

first post but have been active on TTORA and TR4 for about a decade. I have searched and read for weeks with no luck in helping with this question .

2020 TRD OR Double cab V6 - manual trans

    ** truck usage **
    - I use this truck for everyday driving and a LOT of camping . I camp mostly National forest which requires almost 100% fire road usage . I tow an off-road trailer and it does great as is . I love the stock height but have since sagged in the front .

Current Mods - Body Armor front bumper with smitty 9k winch (synthetic) , victory roof rack .

Installed the bumper and winch last august on stock suspension . Overall the truck road great and I knew it would sag and be soft - but I waited it out . Currently I own a lifted 97 4Runner v6 5spd that fulfills most my needs for “needing to be lifted off-road “ .

I ordered the Bilstein 6112/5160 kit (650 springs ) with headstrong AAL and it arrives today . I am reluctant to install the AAL because I really love this truck at stock height . I really just want to gain back the stiffer front feel and 1/2” or so of height with more stability .

so here’s the question . Has anybody kept the rear stock minus new shocks , and installed front 6112 at lowest (1/1 OR 2/1) clips and 650 springs . AND does it retain factory rake with similar mods to me ?

Also I ordered 265/75r16 tires for it - ready to have install . I do all my own spring work but can’t do tires (no machine)

sorry for the rant . Here’s some photos if your feeling the itch

You should have no problems then. The ride is great towing or not. No corner lean or nose dive. Way better than stock in all categories.

Saw the tag. Did you keep your overload in? I’m assuming you did for towing purposes . Truck looks great

I have the Body Armor desert series bumper, 108 pounds and a 48 or so pound 9,500 winch. I have the 6112's on the 4th and 5th notch with 1/4" spacers both sides on 650 pound springs. I have a 3" add a leaf kit in the rear on 5160's. So, not exactly what your looking at for a set up but not too far off. With the tire size 265/75 16, I ran 265 70 17's the ride and all around performance was great. I went up a size on the tires recently and the ride is not as good although still not so bad. Anyways, don't know it that helps but I will take advantage of another chance to show off my Blue Taco.

I just happen to have one ...Pre, pro style grille and pre winch. About the same height ... maybe I guess I need a new photo.

Install went well today. I did clip on 2/1 so “stock” height front but with 650 springs so basically 0.5”. Rear progressive leafs with no overload . Also did a wool wax treatment . The front is waaaay lower than rear so I’ll be moving up to 3/2 tomorrow . I’ll post finished product photos once tires are mounted .

Alright folks I ended up going to 4/3 setting despite never wanting to be that high. Changing the clip settings on the truck takes 10-12 min a side which is nice .

here’s some hub to fender data for the people using 650 billy coils

stock suspension with body armor front bumper and smitty 9k winch (syn line )

    front - 20.5” both sides
    Rear - 21.5” both sides

6112/5160 (650 coils ) 2/1 clip settings with 3 leaf headstrong no overload leaf

front - 20.75 front both sides
Rear - 23” rear both sides

4/3 clip with 3 leaf headstrong no overload leaf

    front - 22” both sides
    Rear - 23” both sides

Looks nice! I remember it took me like three different attempts to get my 6112's set up for the amount of lift I wanted...I didn't find the claimed amount of lift on the little Bilstein chart accurate on any of the settings I think

my measurements seemed pretty accurate to the sheet . Give it take a little for The inaccuracy of measuring from the center of the hub to the fender . Like - where exactly on the sloped fender do you measure ? Where exactly is the center of the hub? In the end it doesn’t really matter too much unless your exact height readings are needed for tires , etc. I’m happy how it turned out.

what tool(s) / process did you use to adjust the height clips? presume they are left installed, and spring is compressed to release load - then adjust clip?

The clips just pop out with some needle nose pliers. You could use spring compressors on the coils, but it's easier and less sketchy to just disconnect the top of the strut and then use a floor jack under the control arm to decompress/recompress the spring.
