Yeah but who knows without seeing it in person. One thing I learned early on when I was Taco shopping is you can’t really tell much from the pictures. I drove for miles to see a truck that looked perfect in an add but in person it looked more like it caught fire and was put out with a baseball bat. And one where everything in the engine bay was covered in oil. And I drove an hour to see a truck the looked nearly perfect in person but smelled so bad that I passed on even starting it and I had to change clothes afterwards.

Well yes you're right same with me until I got to do one I have it looks mint compared to the others that I went to look at there was this one that looked mint in the pictures when I went to see it, it also looked liked it had caught and fire had dents everywhere and to top it off it had plenty of rust.

Same story here. Took me better than a year and a half of searching before I found my ‘04.

So my message to the OP is don’t settle, keep looking you’ll find the truck you want that isn’t a health or safety hazard.

If it were 7-8k i would do it. I have done it. It will be work but gosh, try to find the same thing with that mileage and its gonna cost ya more $ anyways. I think mine was worse, love it now... tap on the frame where the rear shock mount tie in. its boxed in there and will hold water, dirt, rust. It will give you a good indicator of the severity

I'm still curious if the OP realizes the truck he was looking at isn't actually a Tacoma...

Hoping to move into a 3rd gen later this summer. But I have heard so many stories of people doing the same and regretting it…

Not saying you shouldn't and don't know what conditions your Tacoma is in but I wouldn't trade my 1st gen even for the highest 3rd gen trim if I had the chance.

I had the same plan, and when I got my 3rd Gen (which I think is great btw)- I realized it’s just a plain completely different truck. So ended up keeping my first Gen too, no regrets!

If my situation allows I definitely want to hang on to my 1st gen! But, alas with the way the market is, it might be too tempting to cash in on the premium price that they are currently fetching. Mines no bring-a-trailer specimen, but it would definitely be worth a big chunk of a new third gen down payment…

    $4K yes
    $14K no

If it were already mine, I’d cry the blues to Toyota regional and see if the frame could be fixed. Bed rust seems cosmetic.
