    Because there is a lifetime on them? Rubber deteriorates or something. Brand new tires, never used, from years back are no good? Look into it.

    Edit: 6-10 years regardless of tread. So, if not replacing soon you're loosing some of the expectancy compared to buying down the line. Also you should look at the year stamp before buying. Make sure they haven't been in a warehousr for a couple years already.
