Hello all, I finally made time to install the front Coils, rear leaves, and 5100s over the Holaday.

So, now looking for a nice Roof rack. One that can carry toys and maybe support a nice light bar when the budget allows. I like the more tailered-fitted-looking ones with aerodynamics in mind. Something really rugged and nice looking. You know that adds to the look of the truck but is mega functional.

If you are pleased with yours or know of one you think is well designed please chime in with the info. You all are most appreciated.

Very happy with my Sherpa Equipment Grand Teton roof rack! Super sturdy and contours to the truck nicely. Lots of accessories & the 1x2 aluminum extrusion cross bars (same style the prinsu’s and others use) give you lots of options for mounting stuff too them

Victory, Prinsu, Sherpa. Pick one. I feel like they're all the same aluminum extrusions. Biggest difference is style and price. For what it's worth, I have Victory. Keep in mind, wind noise may be a huge factor for you with these things.

yeah, wind noise is a thing for sure. What about the Cali ones with the hide-away light bars? I like the looks of those. But what is their rep for wind, performance etc.?

I've heard a lot of good things about Sherpa. I ordered a new Prinsu rack back in March and they told me they had a 2 week delay. I didn't get the rack shipped for 2 months. Once it arrived parts were damaged (not their fault) and I only received half of my order. Had to call, email, and then fill out a warranty form for them to fulfill the rest or my order. Overall took 10-11 weeks to get everything in.

Alphafoxtrot designs. Cheaper than most and so much better. And I speak from personal use of multiple racks

I have a front runner slimline. Been extremely happy with and no complaints. All the accessories they offer really take the guessing game out of trying to make stuff work. "plug and play" is pretty appealing.

What is the overall consensus with Gobi or Cali Raised? Remember I have a street simi off-road Prerunner. We are talking daily extra storage, yack lashing use. I don't think I will ever be too far off road or have an over cab tent on board. If all was told the car wash took off my rail stripping and Id rather spend that $200 on a rack than two plastic strips.

So, I got my Front Runner Slimsport roof rack for my 3rd Gen, but it will work on 2nd Gen as well.

I had seen early YouTube videos TFO packaging where all the hardware was loose, with some missing, likely due to UPS, but possibly could hint at poor packaging.

I was not inspired at first, when my delivery was shown as complete and I had one thin box that weighed less than 10 lbs on my front porch. There was torn paper tape indicating this thin box was likely attached to a larger box and separated. This thin box contained a wind fairing. This was delivered on Saturday of the Independence Day holiday weekend.

On Tuesday the larger box showed up. Packaging was otherwise very good. All hardware was well and redundantly packaged.

Assembly is fairly straightforward. The instructions skips some details, but it’s fairly simple to figure out.
The cross bars are not threaded. So…screwing them all in was a bit tedious. But that was the worst of it, and not really bad at all. Overall it is a well made product, rock solid once assembled and installed.

My wife’s 2012 TRD Sport has the factory roof bars. Those were a simpler install and would be fine for Kayak mounting and general use.

Not a “rack” in and of itself but as a first step I really like the Rhino ditch tracks. They’re made to fit the double cab so I had to modify a set to fit my AC but it allows for interchangeable roof accessories or non at all which seriously cuts down on noise and maintains mileage.

If you have 4door, OEM is fine. I bought my truck new in '10 and put it on within a month of purchase. It works well and folds back to reduce wind noise and drag when not in use. I have carried my canoe on top many many times and have also had heavy loads of wood on the crossbars. I don't know about the cost of OEM vs aftermarket, but I got a "deal" from selling dealer and believe it 15% off list. Easy install, but I did add some silicone caulk to be sure.

Look for previously owned. Picked up a Prinsu about 2 years ago for $400.
