That is good to know and makes sense. I did not grow up around logging, so I am by no means an expert. My main exposure to this industry is from what I’ve observed while out exploring the National Forest roads, and their products at the local hardware store.

Would you say that they used man made lagoons to store water then?

Found a spot in the woods where I was fortunate enough to catch two Bald Eagles flying in sequence, maybe mates?!?
Only caught a photo of the second.EEFAE6D9-5634-4AA6-80A0-C08CE3FEFA4B.jpgand zoomed in

Not as majestic, but I got to see two red tails fight over a water moccasin last week that one had caught at the pond in the woods near my house. No pics as it happened way too fast.

I have been browsing this thread for a bit, and I thank you for your foresight to tell people here to check WHO OWNS THE PROPERTY they "find" this stuff on. A lot of people forget all of the land has an owner, be it private or the government.
BTW -this is a fun thread to browse!

I "found" this beautiful character about a month and a half ago while out in the woods. Of course, I was "hunting" for his/her kindIMG_0110BOW2u (3).jpg

I drove pretty much right up to these bighorn sheep lambs on a closed section of a mountain highway I was working on. I also got to see them grow up over the following two years I worked there.

Last August my wife and I camped on the Olympic Peninsula just off the coast. On one of the mornings we had planned to hike down to the shore and walk the coast line and do a little exploring. It was a little cooler than normal and we woke up to a foggy morning, typical PNW weather.

    5E1C9532-0D7B-4737-912F-B4B9EA213010.jpg

After we made it down to the beach it was almost like we had stepped onto the set of a horror film. It was both odd but yet calm and surreal. The wildest thing we came across was a tree on the shore covered in bull kelp, but it eerily resembled ropes hanging from the tree limbs. It was certainly a sight to behold, even if it was extremely creepy.

The fog, as you can see, wasn’t super dense but you couldn’t see very far either. However as we continued our hike within about 30 minutes the fog lifted and we found ourselves in a completely different environment. You could clearly see the sea stacks that the Olympic Peninsula coastline is known for.

It was definitely a memorable hike, and really highlights the quirkiness of the PNW.

Oh! I have but I watched it years ago. Unfortunately the pirate’s name has a different meaning these days.

We didn’t see any pirate ships or find any gold. I will add that there are several memorials to ships that have wrecked off the coast of Washington. If anyone is ever interested in hiking the coast it is something to keep an eye out for.
