Yeah i think it’s an og toyota color, but he definitely had it repainted. The frame looked like it was brand new too. I wishi knew the color though- its pretty badass.

just found this list of paint colors for all years of 4runners and couldn’t find that color. It looked to me like a combo of two of the old 80’s colors. Allost like a metallic gold with some brown mixed in. Brownish orange metallic best describes it

I wouldn't get rid of a Toyota truck. Unless it was rusted away to dust, a burnt up husk still might keep the frame if it was salvageable. I'm sure there are circumstances where it makes sense to get rid of a Toyota.

Do you think old Toyota trucks will be popular or desirable in another 30-40 years? Or do you think people will get excited when they see a 30-40 year old Tesla?

A 30 Year old tesla wont work because batteries, so it will need to be replaced with a new pack, where a 30 year old Toyota (or any ICE vehicle) might work, and probably will if it were taken care of. Finding gas that is affordable might be a problem in 30 years, though.

I think in 30-40 years our Toyotas we drive now will be just as “classic” as the old Tacomas and Land Cruisers we drool over today. Maybe even more so because of the push for everyone to switch to EV’s nowadays. We may have some of the last truly gas powered trucks as more and more companies switch to hybrids. Although a fully electric vehicle is still wildly impractical for 90% of the population.

Once I pay of my 3rd Gen I would love to buy an old land cruiser as a project truck.

I wouldn’t mind having a collection of old Toyota trucks, but what do you do with them? Spend all that time money and effort restoring them just to sit and look at them??? Honestly rather be traveling around the world. Looking at pictures is good enough for me to go down the nostalgia road.

Like my 3rd Gen, but dunno….doesn’t have the same soul as the old trucks, Hell already thinking about trading it in when the 4th Gens come out and haven’t even seen one of those yet.

I’m on the same page with you, I wouldn’t buy anything like that if it impacted my ability to travel and adventure. It would be a weekend driver/hobby fixer upper if I did buy one. I think hobbies are important.

That’s a cool article, thanks for the link. On a somewhat related note, I’d love to see the Land Cruiser museum in Utah whenever I get out there.

If money were no object…then sure…maybe a collection would be cool, but unfortunately I am working class stiff. There is no doubt all of the Toyotas I have owned have helped collect a massive amount of experiences traveling and exploring about. Oh yeah hobbies are definitely important, throw most of my money at dirt bikes and the Toyotas haul them to the trailhead. Always wanted an FJ40, but that will probably never happen.

you’re welcome on that link, he sure has a great collection. Definitely swing by the Land Cruiser museum it is something to see.

Yeah I would never be in “collection” territory. Maybe just one extra vehicle but that would be pushing it lol just a pipe dream for now!

Guess I have a “small” collection. lol! Still have my ‘99 1st Gen. Wife wanted to keep it, cheaper to toss in a fresh engine than buy second new vehicle. She doesn’t drive much (work commute is 3 miles round trip) so it is good enough for that.

Occasionally I’ll get that feeling that the old stuff was better, but all it takes is for me to jump in my 1st Gen drive it around the block, and go no it isn’t. The 3rd Gen is leaps and bounds better, pretty sure the 4th Gen will be even more so.

I miss my old 1982 Toyota SR5 4x4 pickup I bought in 1983 with only 15k miles on the odo . It was white with tan interior and had a dealer installed pinstripes . Immediately brought to a 4x4 and off road custom shop for modifications where I had a 6" lift installed , 40" Dick Cepek Fun Countries and regeared the axles with 5.79 gears

A few months after that I got the itch for more hp and had a built 400sbc installed and after that I couldn't keep rear tires on it as the tread wear was very short lived

The other Toyota I had was a 1969 Toyota FJ40 with a built 400sbc and TH400 transmission . It had alot of mods done to it like a GM Saginaw power steering conversion , 4" lift with Shackle reversal , 33" tires , twin fuel tanks and lockers front / rear and full roll cage with door bars and dashboard bar
