Dashboard spot

Hi TW I need so assistance on trying to blend or fix a spot on my dash. My wonderful wife splashed something on the dash and she tried to clean it and it made it worse. Im very upset because my interior is pretty flawless for being a 2010.is there a dye products out there that would match it . My OCD. Is going to drive me nuts looking at that spot. Thanks

 

Did you try wiping it with an interior detailer to see it that helps?

 

Yeah I tried 303 but it didn’t help. She said she used goof off witch is some strong shit and it pulled the paint right off. I just found a website that has the charcoal gray touch up paint. Hopefully i can blend it in

Don’t do it. It won’t match and you’ll just make it worse. I have yet to find something that matches the Tacoma dash. It unfortunately is a unique color and texture.

 

I’ve seen some recommend a hair drier for this sort of thing.

 

I'd just get a dash cover and be done with it. It'll never match 100% if you paint it.

This paint is made for Toyota/lexus interiors

 

You’ll have to paint the entire top dash pad. It won’t spot match. If you try to touch up it’s gonna be noticeable. The dash is 12yrs old it’s not the same color as it was new.

I bought the cheapest black carpet one from dash designs via auto anything several years ago. I think I paid $40 all in shipped to my door with a coupon. I agree they're not the most visually appealing, but it protects my dash from the sun and the price was right.

Go ahead and paint it and let us know how it turns out.

 

If you have OCD it sure will be. You’ll have a painted spot that matches nothing. If you’re gonna do it, I’d do the whole top.

How about trying a gray sharpie before paint? Honestly, I think it’d be less noticeable than paint. Paint isn’t gonna get you where you wanna be. Just a hunch.

Put on a nitrile glove, dab a finger tip with a gray (or black?) sharpie to get a small amount of ink on it, smear it around the finger tip so it’s kinda diluted (maybe even a drip of water with it), and kinda dab and smear it around the discolored spot.

Have a wet towel handy. Wipe off if it’s too much. Then dab and smear again. Wipe off as necessary. Try to blend with the wet towel and inked finger.

I’d try that before paint. You can always paint over it. But jumping in head first with paint… nope. Not my kinda rodeo.

As they say with paint correction of exterior automotive paint…. Least aggressive method first. You don’t want to go backwards and have a bigger problem than you started with.

 

I could try a gray sharpie…. Ive used black before in the method your suggesting on dark furniture

 

Definitely keep us posted. I have similar damage to my dash (but much worse) presumably from the prior owner installing then removing one of those fucking stupid dash covers.

I would not think sharpie would work, at least not black. First it'd too dark, second, and more importantly, sharpie black isn't deep black, it almost has a purple shine to it. It definitely wouldn't match.

It's too low on my priority list compared to the amount of work involved in taking the dash out so I haven't tackled it yet. But, if I ever get around to it I was going to use SEM or Duplicolor made for interior vinyls/plastics. The problem is they list 13 different colors for Toyota and almost all are different shades of black/grey. They suggest asking the dealer for the correct color but not sure I'd trust the dealer would have that or spend their time trying to find it.
