So I was just looking under the hood for fun today and it seems I thought it was mice but as I was feeling it the electrical tape seemed melted and was leaving residue on my fingers so maybe it got hot everything seems to be working fine

I see some exposed wires with no insulation. Should probably get in there and at least wrap them individually with electrical tape and then bundle it back up

    And welcome to TW

Pretty sure I see bare wire.
You are going to need to peel back the tap and repair the sheathing.
I’d also secure the harness with a new zip tie.

You should be able to tell more once you open it up.
A damaged wire can create resistance, resistance creates heat.
Open it up and have a look:thumbsup:

It looks to me like someone made a hole in the firewall and damaged the harness?

You pay a lot more attention than me.
I have to admit, i have a habit of NOT looking at things until “I have to”.
So you’re sure there was no damage there before?

I still think it's from whomever made the hole because it's not only the tape and wires that are bad, the cable tie is also broken.

I would cut the tape off and see how damaged the wires actually are. Hopefully you can get buy with just taping them.

Do no use cheap hardware store tape, it will just fall off, especially under the hood.
