key fob

I purchased a 2022 tacoma sr new and it didn't come with any type of key fob. When I asked the dealer about one, they said that you can't get one with the plain SRs. I find it hard to believe in this day and age not having one with a new truck. The dealer ran the vin and said it isn't available. Any thoughts on this?

I just found a bunch of other threads all saying the same thing. You will probably have to get an after market keyless entry system. (Some people prefer the key over a keyless entry)

 

No keyless entry, no fob. Keyless entry is an add-on for the SR, but not sure if it has to be done when it's built or if it can be done later by the dealer. When they ran your VIN it probably didn't come up with a P/N for a fob because your truck doesn't have keyless entry.

 

Thanks for the input that helps, just so used to having a keyless entry so I guess I will have to get use to it! I will also have to get use to the automatic transmission, they could have skipped 6th gear being that it's a 2.7 .I loved my stick but it would have been a long wait for one.

 

Not sure if Toyota has newer versions of this document, but this PDF was very helpful when I was shopping for my 2016. It is confusing to know what features are available on the different trims. Note, there was no Pro available in 2016.

Installing OEM Keyless Entry

 

It is not standard on the SR trim level.



However, it is an "option" package that can be installed, but most dealers probably don't bother with it because customers don't care or don't it that much.

Yes, I saw that post. I was hoping their was a newer version since that post was 3 years old. New Tacoma's have the Fob built into the key and I would think those could be ordered?

 

I hate to ASSume, but I gather you want to order the FOB you didn't get and presto!, you have wireless unlock/lock?

 

Yeah, thats the ticket.... That is what I want. But I do ASSume you would need a radio receiver too, but one made for a 2022! I also ASSumed that because my window sticker said it didn't have intermittent wipers that, that would be true (lucky me it was not)

 

The FOB receiver is not in the Head Unit.

 

Same thing in a '21 RAV4 SE Hybrid that I got as a company car. As dumb as it sounds, it was tough having to use a physical key again and boggles my mind that even keyless entry/lock wasn't an option. All the equipment needed is there. Seems like a high threshold for Toyota across all of their model line-ups.

My SR5 also didn't come with a fob but an actual KEY. And its WONDERFUL. And yes I have keyless entry unless pushing a small button on the key is not really keyless.

 

When I said Radio. I didn't mean head unit. I mean Radio receiver for the FOB.

 

Aftermarket alarm will come with a fob!
