Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
I actually like mine in spite of the critical views of many on TW. We typically keep vehicles for at least a decade, so it's possible this may be my last. I was well aware of the quirks with the 3rd gen Tacos and was quite comfortable buying my '21 TRD OR knowing full well it wasn't going to be equal to my previous '06 TRD OR - It would be different. But then, I was transitioning from a 6-speed manual to the quirky 6-speed auto. I've adjusted, and it's adjusted to me - we're both happy.
My '06 TRD OR was certainly able to deliver better torque at lower RPMs. But I can still tow my 1 ton subcompact Kubota on my trailer so I'm content. I no longer off-road as much as I did with the '06 and the '21 does just fine for my needs & wants.

It's the internet. There's disdain for literally anything you can possibly think of.

There can't be much of a difference between like configurations between a 2nd and 3rd gen.

If having a few more features you can work with your phone is very important. I could see the benefit of the 3rd gen.

Mainly the engine and tranny which are pretty significant. The 3rd gen also looks way better.

think the 3.5 to 4.0 is a difference. 4.0 has more low end, the 3.5 has better mpgs. thats about it though.

definitely, if you have ford raptor expectations you’re buying the wrong truck.

Mine is fine enough that I’m not going to run out and get a replacement any time soon. I’ll probably drive the wheels off of this one before I replace it.
I started looking to sell when the prices went crazy but decided I’m better off with what I have.

i agree but it’s really not as significant as people make it out to be. People that have a 4.0 and think it’s some torque monster must have not driven any of the modern trucks or SUVs…

I don't like it, I love it. It's the perfect truck for what I need. Well, perfect after I added about $1,500 worth of parts and equipment. Which from what I see on this forum is short money.

I like it; however, I would prefer the Hilux D-4D engine over the 3.5. I don't need to drive fast; as we all know they are not sports cars. Delivering more torque and MPGs would be great.

Second gripe is the composite bed.

Last gripe, the fuel tank being on the driver's side. I know that the yota was built for right hand drive; hence the gas tank is on the left side.

as someone who lives in the rust belt, the composite bed is actually a plus for me

The side profile of the 3rd gen looks better, but the 12-15 grill bumper and head lights look better, and the 3rd gen is too long in the front.
I like the 4.0 2nd gen 4.0 6spd TRD OR AC is probably the best configuration between both generations.
