Spent my holiday weekend off-roading and camping in the Buena Vista/ Salida area. Including finding a dog running miles from where it’s owners lost it and reuniting them. Had a fantastic time.

Least favorite thing might have been Tin Cup Pass, only because it was crazy crazy busy. More sxs than you can shake a stick at. It was super scenic anyways. having most of Aspen ridge to ourselves Sunday night was great.

I've had the gammut over the years. From one that used to hide in the bathtub and you had to be careful not to "find him" or his cover was clearly blown and he'd have to find another hiding spot, to one now that barks at them to dogs that couldn't care less.

Just curious, you have to respond to much in the way of "ehrmahgerd I blew my hand off" calls?

my dollar general fridge is killin it. Still running since the day of purchase. Have learned a few things about it, but I suspect this is the same learning curve as the rest. Most of this was figured out the first trip out. Subsequent trips with the new knowledge have been quite successful.

It likes to sit level in the back seat.
On the seat itself, it tilts back a few degrees. It tends to not cool that way.
Solution: prop the low end up with a few folds of the windshield sunshade. Boom, problem solved during transport.

Frozen foods placed against the wall apparently make contact with the temp sensors, tricking the thing into thinking shit is frozen, and it does not cool efficiently.
Solution: don't place frozen shit against the walls. Place it on the very top instead, it helps with the cooling process too cause cold air falls and shit.

Try to time your beverage consumption with the cooling capacity of the fridge. i can easily fit 3, 12oz beverages and a 5th, plus all the foods. and it keeps up with me alone. ymmv

that's all i got. Keeps shit consistently cold and can be loaded and moved around with one person. handles have shown zero sign of play or flex.

Would recommend and buy again. :burp:

Hey guys, looking for some ground truth if you have it. I've managed to schedule a vacation for next week and am hoping to hit the high country.

How is the snowpack looking these days?

Looking at the Aspen/Leadville/BV/CB corridors. Are any of the high passes yet open? Specifically curious about Schofield, Pearl, Hagerman, Mosquito, Red Cone, Tincup, Hancock, Cumberland, and Tomichi.

I am familiar with these routes and typical early summer conditions, but would be grateful for any insights from folks who have recently or are currently visiting these areas. I have precious little time and would love to spend it as wisely as possible.

    Thanks!

Have you checked bushducks? That's generally one of the best resources. Also, CORE has been putting out pretty decent updates on their FB page as well. https://bushducks.com/tripreps/passopen.htm

There's some work being done on the Alpine Tunnel that I believe affects Hancock. You can go over it, but not down the train grade to Cumberland. Would have to out and back or take Tomichi.

Seriously doubt Pearl will be open for at least a couple more weeks.
