Predator steps, TRD cat-back, lots of orange stickers.
Dodge makes the Charger, Challenger, and the Durango. If they're not separating out Ram then you can count their trucks. Chrysler makes the 300 which idk who buys that anymore, and the Pacifica minivan. Same company, different fleets.

My point exactly. Same company, same quality/manufacturing processes.
One is dead last the other is in 2nd place? Yea right...

Several years ago, JD Power was ranking Toyota as #1. So I guess they were credible when they rank Toyota as #1, but not credible when they don't?

Yup. The market can price things incorrectly medium term, but short term there is no other option. Long term the market always prices correctly. The corrections counteract the bubbleish run ups.

With interest rates rising, I think the market will soon be under pricing assets including cars. If you’re willing to hold out and hoard money, you can make out like a bandit.

That's what the survey said, and engineers agree.

    Can't argue with that.

I love that Ram is always in the top for initial quality. My 2013 Ram was falling apart at 60,000 miles even though I maintained it extremely well. Too much flashy electronics.

They can't and they don't. This is a 90 day quality survey, nothing to do with long term reliability.

Everyone knows if they had a 5000 day reliability study that Lexus and Toyota would be 1 and 2 most likely. No need to get upset about the 90 day study which as the article pointed out mostly consists of issues relating to people not being able to pair their phones to the car properly. Even a Dodge will not fall apart in 90 days.

From a customer service standpoint, having issues withing the first 90 days can really put a bad taste in your mouth for the lift of the vehicle.

If you have been there, spending 40K+ on a car and having it fail right when you drive it off the lot can be a real kick in the nuts.

I get that its nice to work the buys out early but when you have things go wrong in the "honey moon" phase, it can really take away the happiness and excitement of buying a new car.

2009 Cobalt, the electric power steering system completely went out. They quoted us thousands of dollars to replace. Also had some other gremlin that would cause the automatic transmission to shift into other gears including reverse while the gear shifter was in D. Had to re-flash the ECU and TCM periodically.

2011 Equinox had the bad piston rings causing it to severely consume oil which went into the cats putting it into limp mode. Constantly replaced the intake and exhaust camshaft position actuators. My aunt bought a 2019 Equinox brand new which only has 20,000kms (12,000miles) and it has already had the brakes replaced a couple times under warranty due to screeching and grinding sounds, which is yet to be resolved. Case is escalated to GM Canada. I get that all manufacturers have their faults and anyone can get a lemon but this is insanity considering the care we provide our vehicles. Even oil changes are done at half the interval specified.

But not all that long ago, JD Power had Toyota ranked at the top, so….

Tacoma/Toyota owners when _____ lists them as number 1: “Damn straight! Nothing better than a Toyota. I’ll drive one til I die!”

Tacoma/Toyota owners when _____ doesn’t list them as number 1: “That list is bullshit! What the hell do they know about trucks/cars! I never trust them!”

JDP is a marketing company where the vendor PAYS them to say nice things. It is not independent or unbiased.

How useful is a survey that rates manufacturers rather than individual models? What if a Tacoma is ultra reliable but someone is interested in buying a different model, say a Yaris and what if it isn't even made by Toyota and isn't all that reliable?

In other words this survey is of little value to a vehicle shopper because they are buying a model, not a brand.

Agree completely. To be taken with a grain of salt. These are total number of complaints of any kind. It’s just not a super useful metric.

I actually based my JD Power opinion on working for GM dealers for the last 32 years. I didn’t even know Toyota was ever high on their list. I guess Toyota doesn’t use JD Power in their advertising, but maybe I missed something. I do agree with your opinion on Toyota fanboys, but I do feel Toyota makes a better product than GM based only on my personal experience with both products.
