I remember going to my aunt and uncles farm. They kept their house cold. We’d all fight for a spot on the register on the floor. We’d use a blanket around all of us to try to trap the heat….. good times!

Hotdog's? When I was a kid we never had hotdog buns. We’d take 2 franks , slice them lengthwise and fry them. Then we’d lay them out between 2 pieces of white bread (they fit perfectly) with mustard and maybe a little relish. Only time I got hotdogs in a bun was hotdog stands or on picnics. (I still like them that way occasionally)

I still remember the entire Mr. Ed song - A horse is a horse of course of course and no one can talk to a horse of course unless of course the horse is the famous Mr. Ed. Go right to the source and ask the horse……….(I remember the rest but think I’ll stop here)

If I recall correctly, this was kept in a pocket in the front (or maybe the back of the book). When you wanted to check the book out, the librarian would ensure that: 1/ The card in the book matched the physical book you wanted to check out, 2/ Would make you show your library card, 3/ Would make sure that the borrower's (your) name was entered on this card, 4/ Would take this card out and store it, I believe either by author or dewey decimal number, then 5/ Insert a "DUE BY" card in the pocket in the book, to remind you when you needed to bring it back.

This is probably all done by bar code(s) now....

In college, my calculus professor would hand back tests in order of grade... but would switch it up each time. If you were called first, you didn't know if you were the curve buster or dunce...

I pity my boss whose name was Ed.... Always being asked questions how to do things...

When someone asked, "Where did you get this direction?" I could honestly say, "Right from the horse's mouth." and they'd know who to go see....

Not so much lack of heat but of insulation .

    Poor fitting windows and doors.

Growing up in a old farm house with zero insulation when they were built indoor plumbing was just for the rich and famous.

Why heat with no water to freeze.

we only had a cook stove in the kitchen with a very small fire box.

Just like winter camping . Then you really don`t miss what you never had.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
My grandmother used to take a hotdog and slice it down the middle like a bun. Then she would put filling in slice and drizzle ketchup over them. Then she would baked them until the filling was done. It was one of my favorite meals as a kid. We didn't eat them with a bun either.
