Didn't want to update without a picture, but the truck finally arrived over the holiday weekend! So, here's my timeline:
    • April 2022: Started calling dealers (6 dealers here in the Cincinnati area) after learning about the allocation process here.
      • One dealer was charging a $2,500 market adjustment and all others were at MSRP.
      • One dealer was first-come-first-served and did not accept deposits or reservations. Whoever called or showed up when trucks were on the lot could buy them. Preference to anyone with a trade.
      • One dealer never responded to any attempts to contact them for information on a new Tacoma (of course the one closest to my house).
      • Two dealers took non-refundable deposits of $500 to secure an allocation or to put in a request for a specific build.
      • One dealer required no deposit. Just needed a copy of license and proof of insurance to "put your name on the truck" once it was allocated. This is one of the largest Toyota dealerships in the state.
    • May 11th: After no allocations (that weren't already committed to other customers) at any of the dealerships for a 22 TRD OR DCSB AT in Celestial Silver I decided to put a $500 deposit down at the dealership that communicated the most with me to make a request. He used an existing allocation (to the dealership mentioned above that is maybe the largest in the state) as the basis for the request.
    • May 16th: The dealership with the allocation that I wanted texts that the buyer for the exact truck I was using as the basis for my request backed out and it was available if I wanted it and it was scheduled to be built that day in Baja. Jumped on it immediately and reserved it. Called the dealership I put the deposit down at and explained the story. They hadn't done anything with my request yet so simply refunded my money.
    • May 17th: Truck departs the factory for San Diego to then travel by rail to Princeton, IN.
    • May 23rd: Truck placed on 35 day QC Hold.
    • June 9th: Truck arrives by rail at Princeton, IN. Still on QC Hold
    • June 16th: QC Hold is gone, however, no ETA on dealership delivery. Princeton is a 3.5 hour drive from the dealer.
    • June 27th: Text my salesman (was helpful, but never offered as much information as @Rod03 ) and he said it's still sitting in Princeton, but that it has an eta of 6/29-7/1. Never learned why it was placed on QC Hold.
    • July 1st: Salesman texts me that the truck just arrived at the dealership with supposedly no notification to them that it was coming. The mud flaps and black emblem overlays I requested were added when it arrived so that they fall under the warranty. Only thing else the truck had added was the all weather floor mats and sill protectors which were installed at the port.
    • July 2nd: Went to the dealer and took delivery and drove home happy and relieved.
Build date to delivery was just shy of 7 weeks. Built at the Baja plant. QC period was approx. 4 weeks. Sat at Princeton, IN for 3 weeks, but only 2 weeks after the hold was lifted. Was worth the wait in the long run and I was on the lucky end of finding an available allocation near the start of my search and local to where I live.

Good luck to everyone still waiting. I think you'll love it when you finally get it!

    Very Nice!

Congrats and thank you for the play-by-play.

I waited about 2 weeks before taking delivery of my Sport last year May/2021.

I finally got my permanent vin today. Does anyone know how long it should take from build date to delivery? I’m in northern Illinois if that makes any difference.
