Gladiators are okay for “overlanding” pretty much car camping on trails that aren’t that extreme. They also look like trash unless they’re on 37”+ and a 4” lift. Their break over and departures angles suck. You can see how it’s effected trails in Moab. They drag their ass on everything.

My taco isn’t fully built yet but I’ll do 1 to 7 rated trails with it now and use my Rubi on anything more extreme.

My taco is my daily and my wife 4Runner is hers. It is a much better vehicle for daily driving and most trails. The Jeep rides rough and feels like you’re driving a tin can but you can’t deny their off roading ability.

We bought my son a 4 cyl Tacoma in February. Currently looking at 4 cyl turbo Jeep purchase options for our daughter. Having VERY recently driven and shopped both, my next vehicle will be a DCLB Tacoma.

In 2019 when I was looking to buy a mid sized truck, my #1 criteria was that it had to be a M/T. That meant either buying a Jeep Gladiator or a Tacoma but since Toyota and Jeep are at opposite ends of the quality/reliability spectrum, it was a no brainer. I didn't even look at the Gladiator.

Initially I liked the Tacoma but was not impressed with the wimpy power at low rpm. Research lead me to the info that Tacoma ecu factory tuning included Atkinson Cycle tuning which created engine efficiency but the negative aspect was a reduction in power (torque) at low rpm. The fix was a Coyoza aftermarket ecu tune for $450Cad. Now I have plenty of power at low rpm with great throttle response and now I can say without caveats, that I love my Tacoma.

My 2000 4-Runner was 'almost' the perfect vehicle. I would have preferred a tailgate (vs lift hatch) and I didn't like that the back seat didn't fold flat.
The Tacoma fixes both of these issues, but it has some quirks. It's a close 2nd.

All this Gladiator talk, and people not liking their 3rd gen.

I thin I would get a Jeep Wrangler 2dr 4cyl 4x4 manual if that's an option, for the offroad stuff. Ford Ranger XL 2wd for the truck stuff, and a Toyota Corolla GR for everything else.

I'm on my Third 3rd gen. So by default I must like them. They def have their quirks/annoyances but the after market has mostly figured them out.

You don't exactly have issues before you buy a vehicle lol. So your post make no sense.

Most people expect their 45k dollar truck to be pretty damn good and problem free no matter what brand/vehicle it is. Plenty of people on here that just can't stomach the fact these trucks have some issues that go well beyond the "its a truck" excuse.

"I'm not a fanboi" then proceeds to spend hours arguing with a stranger about the merits of a truck he doesn't even own.....:rofl:You certainly are a fanboi dude and if you don't watch jeep moab video's with lotion handy I will eat my foot.

I don't. On 33" MTs, with ~400lbs of overland bullshit and I'm still passing nearly everyone on the freeway. Hardly break 3500rpm. Maybe you just drive like a bitch.

Q1 2021 ended with 66,449 units sold (https://www.motorbiscuit.com/toyota-tacoma-sales-plummeted-q1-2022-compared-2021/). Only 10% of that need to be modders to make a lucrative market. And that's just ONE quarter. The vast vast vast VAST majority are just buying a midsize truck to have a midsize truck. Not a build project. You're using bad selection bias. And you admitted earlier you don't even wheel that much.

Thats RIGHT bb i'm back and i'm bored and arguing is my favorite kind of dance...So tell me given the current pricing a used offroad, that you supposedly own, compared to the far better gladiator, why don't you just go trade for one?

I'm sorry you don't find the same amount of joy in your truck as I do mine.

I'm sure no one likes the Tacoma. That's why the used car lots are bursting at the seams with Tacomas and budget pricing to get them moving.

I'm sure 90% of Taco owners have never even heard of this forum and are blissfully driving around ignorant of how crappy their truck is.

As a side note, I just saw that the Ridgeline is the #1 rated used truck. Tacoma is a close second. Of course, the Ridgeline is a unibody car with a bed so not really a truck making the Tacoma the #1 rated used truck.
