I've been searching for a TRD-OR manual, leather for quite sometime now. Had $500 deposits at two MSRP dealers and thinking of a third. Wait time was 9-months to over 1 year, to maybe impossible (manual with premiums just were not being built by Toyota).

The third MSRP dealer has always had markups on Pros ($3k) and when I was talking to them, he said they had a huge wait for manuals, (like everyone else), but his computer showed him that Toyota had allocated them an extra 6-spd TRD Pro.

Apparently, a guy who was waiting finally got his allocation and Toyota sent them two Pros.

I had to pay the $3k adjustment, but I reserved it before the rig even hit smart path/dealers websites and it will be built 7/25, so jumping me ahead 11+ months in line.

So yeah, I despise market adjustments, but in this instance I don't feel taken. Most non-MSRP dealers were $4-6k+ on ORs and 8-15k on Pros.

MSRP dealers were back logged by a waiting list up to 5 years for pros due to lack of allocations.

    I feel fortunate.

Luck plays a huge role plus persistence. I stopped at a dealer on the way to Costco. We had purchased my wife’s 4runner pro a few weeks earlier. Started chatting with a sales guy who said they had nothing coming in but he’d check. Says this just came in like 5 minutes ago. Shows me a lime pro but says yeah but it’s a manual. I’m like hmmmm well really didn’t want that even though I did and said I’m still interested heading to Costco call me. He calls we settle on 4K over left deposit 2 months later got exactly what I wanted. If you keep trying stopping by you will get what you want eventually.

Yup, I was talking to dealers in UT, AZ, CO, NV and ID, with an unanswered inquiry to San Diego.

Each dealer gets random alottments and sometimes they have extra.

Been shopping for the trd off road premium and found a pro at msrp and only about 3000 more than the off road premium, depends I guess what level truck you want. I prefer to not disassemble my new truck for awhile and this should handle my needs. Manual transmission so I can hunt my own gears. All in what you want. Not everyone needs kings and all the other mentioned. Did I say that out loud on tacoma world lol.

Having just turned 58 I get that..lol. Hoping this will be my last truck. But if I don't like the manual it shouldn't be hard to sell /trade for my money back as long as we stay in this kind of market. I am looking forward to the manual though driven many thru the years.

Yup 57 here. Manual lime pro always had a manual Tacoma or Toyota pickup never had an automatic. First was the profile pic in 1983 loved that thing. As long as I drive a manual I’m not old :)

Actually, there is. Only in Quebec. If there’s a website, a poster or any advertisement of a MSRP, they can’t sell it for higher (except for the price of accessories or extended warranties, e.g. optional stuff). That is why prices advertised in Quebec are higher because they have to include all the mandatory fees (transport, etc.). In another province, they’ll lure you in with a lower price, but you’ll end up paying the same price as in Quebec.

ANY "dealer markup" is excessive. I don't care what they call it, or try sugar coating it as "market value".
This isn't new. I've seen this mark up 10 to1 5 years ago on particular cars that dealer knew they could get a bidding war going over. It's all a scam.

Not a fan of the markup or dealers. But, when someone goes to trade in their 2021 tacoma trd pro like me and the dealer gives me another 5k more than I paid for it, I'm not going to say, "that's ok dude give me 5k less than the msrp cause that's how things are supposed to work". If I buy a pro at msrp and know I can get 10k more if I sell it personally am I going to sell it below msrp? Market value is what someone is willing to pay.

This isn’t actually a prohibition against charging above MSRP, it just makes the price labeling requirements a little more complicated. I don’t know if there’s a Canadian equivalent to the Monroney sticker but it would just mean the dealer would need to be diligent about coordinating the vehicle price sheet, and any online advertising to meet the requirements. Also the dealer and Toyota are separate entities so I would think Toyota could advertise an MSRP but the dealer could still charge more as long as they include the up charge in their final advertised price.

Not only is it a law, but if they charge more than the advertised price, they will have to pay back the difference and a % of it. Quebec is very avant-garde for the protection of customers.

I like the law, although I think the Monroney stickers in the US accomplish the same thing. Except for online advertising which often quotes the price without fees. But you still end up seeing the sticker regardless, and it’s usually right there on the site too.

Again though there’s a difference between requiring up front pricing including all fees, and outlawing a price that is higher than MSRP. I don’t see a law in Quebec that specifically states the dealer can’t charge over MSRP.

I don’t know why people get so wrapped up in MSRP anyway. It’s just a guideline set at the beginning of a model year. It doesn’t have much actual relevance except emotionally. Sometimes the market is lower, sometimes higher. That’s capitalism.

Stuff like this is why I hope the entire dealership model dies. The supply chain issues have made dealerships essentially pointless. If the only way to get a new vehicle is to go to the dealership and have somebody order me one, why does the dealership need to exist at all? I should just be able to do that from their website and have it delivered to my house.

If you go on the Toyota Canada website and shop for a Tacoma in Ontario, the price will change if you flip to Quebec. They have an obligation to show the full price. Now, when you’ll walk in the dealership, if the sticker price is higher than the advertised price on the website, they will have to honor the lower price.

Yep, that’s what the law requires.

What’s that got to do with MSRP and price gouging?

Just took my truck in for 10K service today and the dealer had 5k mark-ups on every Tacoma. No new TRDs available, just sr5s. They had a couple used TRD ORs, but I didn't care to ask the price. maybe I'll ask when I go back to pick the truck up.

The new sr5s are going for what I paid for my TRD OR last Sept! Gald I bought when I did, even if i did have to pay a $3500 mark-up.

? MSRP is what is advertised on the website. If you walk in the dealership and the price is higher, they have to honor the lower price. Not sure how to spell it, but that’s what it is in Quebec.

In other words, dealerships can only sell at same or lower price than MSRP, point.

Agreed but unfortunately it’s all about the Benjamin’s. The big club of rich people we ain’t in it. The lobbyists bought the politicians years ago on this it will never go away. Nothing is done for the peoples benefit ever.
