I loved my lil truck, and was planning to hand it down to my son when he gets old enough, that was till it blew a head gasket @65k miles a few weeks ago.. waiting to see how it all shakes out but nervous to hold onto it even if they fix it and not sure if I’ll ever feel the same.

We own quite a few vehicles (between my 3 kids - one recent college graduate and 2 college sophomores), 3 of them are Toyotas (pictured here).

The bottom pic is me on my favorite daily driver (Rocky Mountain Horse) - that is my lovely wife of 30 years in front, on one of her rides. The blue Tacoma (2019 TRD Off Road) is my truck - purchased new in 2019, now with 175K trouble free miles (many in 4WD). The other Tacoma is my son's truck - 2002 TRD Off Road (purchased new by my best friend and sold to my son his senior year in HS), that truck has 280K miles (a LOT in 4WD). The bright green 4Runner (2022 TRD Pro) is my wife's car - her first vehicle as an empty nester (she wanted a smaller vehicle). She is a a housewife, so she will not drive the miles I do, but she will enjoy it nonetheless.

I voted number 4, as the tuck is not perfect. I certainly don't love it like a horse or a dog - but I like it more than most people. I like the look of my son's truck better, I like the ride of my wife's car better and we have larger GMC vehicles that certainly have more power and ride smoother. However, for a stock vehicle that I can drive to my office, easily park in a major city, drive around the trails of our horse farm, pick up feed bags from the CoOp, etc - all with no mechanical issues...well, that to me makes this Tacoma a TERRIFIC value, and that is what I was looking for when I bought it.
**I think I posted the pics twice...not sure how to delete...

I ordered mine in 2016. I've had it for 6 years now. I'm still glad I bought it.

This is what I cannot understand about people salivating over the pro. I knew I was going to spend 5-10k on aftermarket parts and suspension. so why would I pay for the pro if I am just going to replace all the parts? It's literally just buying the pro name for resale value.

Perhaps ignorance is bliss coming from two honda civic hatchbacks, a mazda MX6, a v6 accord coup, and a 2008 FJ cruiser (4.0L; AT). I also drove my wife's 2nd gen AC tacoma around. The truck doesn't seems as gutless as people say. Though I had some growing pains relearning a MT coming from MT cars, I'm really loving the overall feel of it now. I also think the tech is appropriate for this truck, and am especially glad it doesn't push me back into lanes like my wife's RAV4 - scares the shit out of me every time, to the point that I have over corrected and ended up in another lane! All that being said, I think there's a lot of cognitive dissonance and confirmation bias floating around here. Are we paying for the reliability of the older gens and/or is it too big to fail at this point? It's arguably the best looking truck to ever roll on this planet; but, if you aren't brand loyal, firmly believe more technology means more better, and are convinced tacomas are no longer the most reliable vehicles, you'd absolutely be paying too much to get into this truck. All that being said, I selected 3, but would have soft selected 0 and 3 because I have a 2nd kid on the way and am concerned two car seats won't fit.
