I'm sorry and don't mean to be a dick but filtering your oil externally every 1000 miles is fucking stupid. I don't care how much time someone had on their hands. Doing that is literally pointless and probobly causing more harm than good.

Talk about zero to ten in a hurry. As for the merits of it, you would need to do an oil analysis to tell how much, if any, good its doing. As far as hobbies go its pretty harmless, he could be collecting creepy dolls or something like that.

My dad went the same way, he recently retired and now hes climbing the walls, looking for something, ANYTHING, to take up his new spare time.

I think the OCI is a legitimate question for someone whos new to the truck, or new to newer more modern engines, not a dumb one. Not everyone knows alot about the subject, they just see that the new oci is 10k instead of 5k and its an honest question to ask if thats some bs.

The manual requires a decision on OCI dependent on usage. If it was purely subjective I would decide to change my oil every time there is a full moon lol.

Well, I’m here to learn so if it is causing more harm then good I’m all ears. Rather than chastising me why not enlighten me? I try and add value to this forum when I can but I probably take more than I give thanks to all the clever and helpful people on here. If you’d rather kick me, I’m alright with that too. I don’t scare easily so give me your best shots. PS. I’m a sheep dog.

At some point you will be filtering out your additives. I can put a filter on there that will filter out bacteria. Do I want to do that? No, because all my additives will be filtered out too.
    10K. Move on.

10k seems excessive. I'd do everything 30k. Whether it's needed or not

I have changed every 15k with amsoil and now have 315k on 2006 4.0
    Never uses any between changes.
Amsoil claims 25k with oil samples on their signature series.

OP (if you're still with us), I schedule my change for every 7500 mi. or so. Really it depends on the weather, I don't care to change my oil when it is too hot or too cold out, and my free time availability. So I end up doing it every 6 months or so and about 7500 mi. I tow a ton (probably 40-45k mi of towing so far) and in 6 years and 70k miles I have had no issues with my routine. I have also never had to add a drop of oil, ever, between services.

Do whatever you want really, but it's all just guessing for most of us anyways.

10K for me on the Tacoma and Rav4 hybrid per the manual. I change my Mazda6 at 7500 because it works a little harder.

Just got drilled for almost 100 bucks on my last Rav4 oil change; time to do that one myself.
