42k miles on them. The spare has much less

 

Went to tire shop, they told me it would be 4 hours because my tires were "offset". People are dumb.

Called up Midas, they asked me the size of the tire going on, and if i had tpms or if I deleted them. Better. But they also wanted $10 ewch tire to dispose, so I guess im taking the old ones home. Going onto FB marketplace this afternoon, if all goes well.

 

Everything has been sucking lately!

What does offset mean? I've been driving things with wheels since the dinosaurs roamed the earth. Do them mean the track is wider on one of the axles than the other? Or do they mean offset like "doglegged" (yes, that's a thing).

And that whole tire disposal fee is so much bull shit. There, I said it, and it's the truth, it's bull shit.

A guy (or gal) rolls your tires outside, and throws them into a tractor trailer container they keep parked there till it's full, then they take it to the recycler and get paid for recycling them. I'm guessing it costs them $2 per tire to get them there and then they make like another $3 per tire + your $10, and it's a pretty lucrative business.

Hopefully the tires are really being recycled and not just thrown into a landfill somewhere.

You could always cut them and turn them into planters. Paint them, put in some pretty flowers. That would be nice.

But my favorite idea is to cut them in half, paint them, and lay them out like this as a giant snake in your yard.
It looks even better if you let the grass get taller which basically means more beer time and less cutting. Win Win!

 

Oh, and so far, my interactions with DT or DTD has been positive. I like how I can buy through them and then have a authorized local shop do the install. We have a shop like that up here near me. A father and son business that is fantastic to deal with. Our car will go through this process soon enough. We need new tires badly. When it comes time for the truck I will do the same thing.

 

Wheels are offset, not tires. Those guys were dumb.

midas says they can do it, but cant guarantee the balance..

 

WTF does that mean!? Aren't all wheels offset to some degree? I mean even my riding mower has an offset wheel. Yea, whatever. Pass on them too Son. Good choice. When I got my Duratracs put on the 4R I went to Firestone Bought them through Tire Rack. They had a hell of a time balancing them. Never again. Why I found the place I did. They don't specialize in off road vehicles but just fix anything and are a legit shop.

No offense to anyone that works at places like NTB or Firestone of course. I went in recently to see if they could mount 26" tires on 12" wheels. They said no.
