Was removing my Air Dam today, some how my stupid self ended up removing one of these chin bolts that I had thought was some how was connected to the airdam. (It wasnt) Definitely wasnt paying attention when I was laying down in hot Tex' summer heat wrenching those bolts down. When I quickly realized, I reapplied them, but was totally worried & paranoid that i had loosen something.

    > So the main question is..
What's the purpose of these bolts? And what is it connected to? Tried looking down to see where it could be, but still could'nt figure it out, haha...

Part of the bumper cover mounting hardware would seem logical.

Good idea, I definitely will. Just trying to see if someone on the forum could give a full image before I risk exacerbating the situation

    A bunch..and no build thread!
If I remember right, that attaches the two pieces of the bumper skin together. I did away with mine a while back when I installed a winch bumper.

Front cover. How did you not see that the bolts went into red not black?
Please just drop the wrenches and take all future mods to the professionals.

From very fuzzy memory, there are arms that extend out from the aluminum crash bar and attach to the lower bumper around there. I think. It was hot when I ripped all of that shit out and I wanted to be done before dark, so I didn't really take the time to document it. :cookiemonster:

It helps hold on the bumper cover. Note the torque on these is really low--44 in. lbs. Here's a few diagrams from the FSM:

I'm sure glad you're not my dad, PSI. Whenever I heard the car pull into the garage I knew I had exactly 55 seconds to put the screws back into the Betamax player and/or telephone. I honestly can't tell you why all household appliances spontaneously disassembled when they were under my supervision. I can say that for the longest time my parents were confused about why all the doorknobs and deadbolts were put on backwards. :anonymous::anonymous::anonymous:

There might or might not have been a butt-whoopin involved, or five.

...I still don't know how to reassemble half the shit I try to repair.

My daughter is 30. My son is 27. They probably wish I was not their dad either.
I would tell them "I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you" until they would just hang their heads and admit defeat.
Both are now very successful and making more than me.
    I win.

It looks like your a bit heavy handed with the socket marks around those bolts.. it makes sense they hold the two parts together. I would remove the dam and reinstall the bolts if for nothing else to stop rust in those holes but likely hold the bumper cover in place
