He is one of the few other nonbelievers like me in this thread. We both said we hope you’re right and get rich, no ill will, just no faith in the squeeze.

GME dividend split. On a normal dividend you can sell after the ex-dividend date and still get paid. On gme it seems the ex-dividend date is the 18th. So if someone sold their shares on the 19th, they are on record as having the stock and get the dividend. But the shares are sold, so do you still get the shares?

Now if you dont get the shares since you sold it before payment date, but they were still allocated for you, what happens to them?
Example: hedge fund has 1000 shares, they sell them on the 19th, they dont get the shares, but they were allocated so now there are 3000 extra shares out there that can be used to cover for free.

 

There are two major hurdles to the "Splividend as Savior" idea that no one has been able to successfully answer for me thus far:

1) If the stock is naked shorted and synthed to the point of many times the float in shares, why would market makers not simply synth up further to cover the obligations the splividend will create? Especially when the overall dollar value doesn't change.

2) Why would short sellers be much affected at all? When you short sell, you borrow shares, then sell them. Meaning the current owner of the shares is entitled to the splividend. The short seller has an obligation to return a pre-split equivalent number of shares to the party they borrowed from originally, but they are not responsible for providing splividend shares to the current shareholders. That would be the current shareholder's brokers, so wouldn't they be the ones on the hook to enter the buying fray?

And while this might result in an open-market search for shares and drive price up, would that really matter when the DTCC has openly admitted waiving collateral requirements for market stability?

I just think if this dings anyone, it's brokers not position-short big money.
