I went from owning only Toyotas(86 pickup, 85 4runner, 92 4runner, 00 Tacoma) to full sized trucks(04 Ford F-250 Diesel, 06 Dodge 2500 Ram diesel, 15 Ram 1500, 15 Ram 2500). None of my Toyotas ever gave me grief…unless I did something stupid to cause said grief. Every full-sized truck was complete junk and spent way too much time in the shop. Now I’m back into my 3rd gen and I don’t see me leaving the Toyota stable any time soon!

Just my opinion here… and it’s totally subjective. It’s mostly about feel in day to day driving. I prefer the torque curve on my 3rd gen and how it feels. Also, I’ve towed the same boat with all three (2nd and 3rd gen tacos and my 4Runner). I think the 3rd gen tows better especially up hills at moderate speeds.

I’ve actually considered switching to a gladiator. Specifically an 3.0 diesel version. I’ve had jeeps in the distant past. I miss dropping the top on nice days. Seems the gladiator would be the best of both worlds (as a pickup). Now…. Is there a sacrifice in retained value, reliability? You bet there is.

Once Jeep figures out how to build vehicles that are a reliable as Toyota, then you might have a point...until then, it's NADA.

My concern is mainly the motor. You’re right about what warranties are for. But, parts for the diesel can be a nightmare. I had an Ecodiesel Ram. It had problems. It was in the shop once for 28 days. Not sure I’d want to deal with it again.

I can’t argue with that. Very often any of these forums take on a “sky is falling vibe”. If I were to get a gladiator I would probably go with the diesel. I drove a pentastar v6 vehicle at work for a few years. It’s pretty anemic and I never really cared for it. But… my wife loves our Toyota’s and thinks I’m nuts to even consider it.

Ya not that many. Its not like there is a class action lawsuit over the pentastar motors or anything..... oh wait.

As a frequent vehicle flipper, I’d offer that the grass is always greener.

As a Tacoma owner since 2008, I’d offer that each generation is “weaker than the one before.” When I bought a second gen in 2008, the first gen tacoma was being lamented as the first and last great tacoma compared to the weak/unreliable/garbage second gens.

If you think the Tacoma has a lot of complaints, you should check out some of the other midsize truck forums.

Rangers aren’t as bendy, but can get you to 5-7% fuel/oil dilution inside 5000 miles and lose alternators to puddles.

Like I said, grass is always greener.

Modern diesels are more trouble than they are worth unless you’re towing >12000 lbs.

    Extended warranties make sense here.

    Or not....

You've been here about a week and do nothing but trash the truck you still own and pick fights with members. Is your goal to make this site less enjoyable with your contribution?

I've been a member here for a long time and have less than five people on my ignore list. You're about to make that list in the shortest amount of time ever.

EDIT: Fuck it, you're on the list. Good luck in your future endeavors.

I like mine a lot and hope to take it to the 200k+ mile mark, but it's had a few issues already and hasn't even reached 30k yet so it makes me worry slightly.

    Hahaha!

This local brewery makes a beer called: “don’t fear the beer”, actually very good and super cheap. Nice lager.
