Sounds like the type of shops that cater more towards classic/exotic cars owned by clients with F-You money. Otherwise, no way you're staying in business charging those kind of rates for your everyday average Joe mass produced car/truck.

Been a couple of months but toyota wont stand by its paint. Funny how I have been to 3 different shops and they all know this issue but Toyota doesn't care.

I say we keep harassing Toyota corporate. Eventually they might care enough to do something.

By the time I had my FJ cruiser for three years, the clear coat was completely gone from the white roof and the paint was starting to dust off. I took it to a dealer who said it’s “not rusting and something in the environment did that” and I was like “your paint is not up to the environment.”

I emailed and called Toyota corporate hoping maybe they would spring for repainting or at least putting a new clear coat on the Porta potty roof the FJ cruiser has and the emails were ignored and the guy from corporate told me exactly the same thing.

This was happening around the same time the throwout bearing was exploding the six speed manual transmissions in the FJ cruisers and second generation Tacomas and I had to hunt around for a dealer in Florida who would replace it under the powertrain warranty and not claim that it was “due to neglect or water entering the transmission” when the vehicle was never in a water crossing.

Toyota is very notorious for ignoring problems, and the minute you say class action lawsuit, be prepared to get a check for $70 five years later.

Everyone please call Toyota Customer experience at 1 (800) 331-4331 and make a case. The more people the better. My selfish ulterior motive is for people to call in about 2nd gen MGM paint especially for my 2015. I washed and waxed this thing religiously when i got it 3 years ago with 30K miles only, and the paint is gone now on roof, hood, sills, and part of the flat parts of window sills.

Yep, it really can't hurt to bother them. Worst case is we waste 30 minutes on the phone.

They are definitely aware of the issue.

Any class actions happening on these paint issues. I could take pics of paint peeling on my 2014 White Tacoma TRD but they would look similar to others already posted. Phone number of Toyota Customer Service or just work through dealers? Going from bad to worse.

Agree. Don't hold your breath waiting for Toyota. If you plan on keeping it,bite the bullet and have it repainted. Not just touched up, all of it.

Toyota Super White does not have a clear coat. Adding something (anything) to protect the paint is not a bad thing, but the prep for that particular product is pretty invasive. I would not recommend buffing with a wool pad for anybody less than an experienced detailer.

Anyone aware of the latest affected model year that we know of to date? 2019? What’s shocking is I don’t think they’ve done anything about this, even for fresh Tacomas off the line.

The issue with super white is the environmental coat didn't bond with the primer correctly. After time or a rock chip the primer starts peeling from the ecoat. Nothing can really be done except to have it repainted. Took seven years for mine to start and now one of the rear doors is pealing bad. Off to get it stripped and painted in a week or so.

Utterly baffling how this issue only impacted white. I cannot imagine how (a) toyota wouldn’t know how this happened and (b) it wouldn’t have been fixed by now.

It hasn't only impacted white. My blue 2015 has the same problem, same spots.

Makes sense. Then white must be one of the more common colors so statistically we see it more with white? Just a theory.
