I'm usually a fan of "dat gap"... but in this case, it was the first thing I noticed, in a negative sense.

How much does re gearing cost now? What gearing is recommended? 5.29 vs 4.88? If so why? What shops do it? Etc.

    thanks in advanced

5.29 on second gen are for real big boy tires (37 and up). 4.88 typically are good for 33-35, although I've got 34s and don't feel the need to regear. Yukon is in Everett at Randy's

What's in stock and availability, different story, call around maybe. I was going to go with the guys in Cashmere for lockers, but they stopped responding

Hey folks! Not sure where to ask this question but this thread seems to get more traffic than the BS thread and I didn’t want to create a new thread for it.

Does anyone have a recommendation for powder coating service in the Portland area? I have a set of wheels that I want to powder coat satin black for my car. Thanks I’m advance!

Only thread I could find from your friend relating powder coating is about his wheels with people commenting that he overplayed for the service and that they looked like crap  his other thread about his rental and what he’s done to it is bad ass though!

I run 285/75/16 Dura-Tracs E-Load and decided to install 5.29's because I pull a 22' Travel Trailer over Mountain Passes. I was really having to push the skinny pedal and run really high rpm's to get up and over the hills. Re-Gearing didn't help much. It's also my daily driver and I really don't notice much compared to how it drove with stock gears. Yes, I am Tuned accordingly. I bought my gears from East Coast Gear Supply. They sent me complete units and I sent them back my stock units for cores. You can also check out the "5.29 Mega Thread" on TW.

Not everyone is in a third gen. In this case it makes a big difference

Noted!! I love your post about the powder coat situation and researching lol what’s scary is their rating too! Definitely doesn’t reflect the quality of work you got.

I called Top Coat Industrial Finish out in Hillsboro and the guy (Jason) I spoke with suggest that I go with liquid paint rather than powder coat because of the type of car and suggest I call Skips Wheel Works or Color Wheels NW. Guess I’ll be giving them a call and see what they say/quote me.

Advanced Powder Coating out in Milwaukee has been doing work for my family for a long time. Always reasonably priced and top quality.

I have a 2nd gen tacoma. Down the road I’ll eventually get 35’s. Does re gearing help with mph? With 33s at least?

Help with mph? It just moves the gear ratio down, shortens the mph between gear changes, to try and get a lower rpm during highway speeds, or a higher rpm when you need some power. It doesn't create power that isn't there already, it just makes the power band more useable because larger tires lengthen the gear change interval.

Front and Rear Locked, 35’s, Chevy 63” swap, Fox Suspension and a bunch of other shit too long to list.
The lower the gears the lower the Mph. With a M/T, 4.88’s and 34’s I could barely go 85 (on a race track of course). I was 3k Rpm at 70. 3.73 17MPGs with 4.88 12.5-13 MPGs. The truck did haul ass off the line though. Going over the pass with 4.88’s mostly 5th-6th gear. With 3.73’s I dip into 4th with my foot to the floor in the steep stuff.
