I'll have to look up the ride concepts. I was misremembering you recommending 5.11s but that's an entire different company lol

I just rode these with entity flat pedals and it was slippery lol

Biggest drawback I've found is you can only fill up during business hours and some employees refuse if they haven't filled a forklift tank before even if I walk them through it

That's pretty much the idea. No matter how much I clean the pan that I have I still see glitter :bananadead: Want to drain the trans on the Ford and hopefully have a super clean pan to check for danger sparkles

    Ok, let's get started.

Little Honda GX270 that apparently had rod knock. I took a chance, mainly because I've read a lot about the shit these things go through without fail.

    20220706_162453.jpg

I do have to say, after @Abeyancer told me about the parts from Japan vs Thailand, and the cost savings, I assumed I'd just buy a bunch of new parts.

Jimmie however, was just as curious as I was in seeing just how bad (or good) this thing's condition was.

Valve cover off, gasket was mostly intact and in great shape but did have a small missing piece.

    20220707_142818.jpg

Checking valve spring clearance; I couldn't even get my feeler to fit on either the intake or exhaust!

    20220707_145114.jpg

    20220707_145127.jpg

Before further disassembly, it was time to drain the fluids. The gear reduction box had already been drained, so all I had to do was the block.

    20220707_145659.jpg

Man, this oil was old as shit. Fortunately, the only surprise I got was carbon build up; no glitter here!

    20220707_150513.jpg

    20220707_150400.jpg

Before we can go further, the reduction gearbox needs removing. This thing's setup with a wet clutch, and it looks beefy as fuck.

    20220707_153045.jpg

    20220707_153036.jpg

    The goodies removed.

    20220707_154619.jpg

Nice to see it even uses Koyo bearings, and a beefy as hell chain.

    20220707_163432.jpg

Now to get into the block.

    20220707_160356.jpg

This is where I expected to see the worst, but really it wasn't all too bad.

    20220707_160938.jpg

    20220707_160933.jpg

A little more draining, and a chance to see some bits of glitter. It's had a chance to really settle, and knowing that, I'm surprised with how little I actually saw.

    20220707_160944.jpg

    20220707_161046.jpg

Little wiping down to keep parts from dripping. I'll be hitting mating surfaces with a scotch pad, and everything inside with parts cleaner.

    20220707_163343.jpg

After some back and forth with Jimmie, we were thinking the engine wasn't looked at or disassembled by the previous owner. Makes sense, he never ran it as he acquired it through a motorcycle trade.

Looking behind the crankshaft and camshaft gear, you'll see why they thought it was knocking. I'm assuming they only ever cranked/turned it over.

    Both freaking bolts were loose!

    20220707_165829.jpg

    20220707_164529.jpg

Keeping everything TDC as disassembly continues; look how new everything looks! Especially since, according to the serial number and all, this thing is at least 18 years old!

    20220707_171336.jpg

With that all uncovered, time to get back to the head.

Pulled off the valve springs, retainers, and pushrods. The retainers were just those single top pieces, an older design as it doesn't use valve stem seals or c clips.

Best of all? Push rods are straight!

    20220707_171854.jpg

Time for the head to come out.

    20220707_171914.jpg

I will say, Jimmie called it! He was expecting carbon build up and holy shit he was right.

    20220707_174636.jpg

    20220707_174644.jpg

Thinking tomorrow I'll pull the cam gear and check the connecting rod, clean up the piston, etc. For now, got everything set aside.

Convenience would be huge but bulk propane isn't that much cheaper unfortunately...also I don't think insurance would like me lol

They do make home CNG fueling stations, i wonder if I could dual fuel LPG and CNG

Scrap, i didnt think about that, that's a bummer :/

I keep forgetting I don't work at the Bobcat dealership anymore where we filled all manner of propane tanks, a bunch of our equipment was propane powered as well. During the summer we had a lot of commercial guys bringing their work trucks in to get filled

That's a pretty cool little motor, I bet it will rip once you get it all put together

    Do those bolts need Loctite?

Jimmie and I were surprised cause he said they don't normally back out on their own.

Then again, my assumption is that they didn't wet torque everything so it wasn't properly torqued to spec.

The cover on the block was freaking tighter than bolts I've run into on a leaf pack o_O

Yet two bolts on the reduction gearbox to the block were just finger tight.

Honda doesn't actually require loctite on any of their fasteners

The way he got it, it's already race spec. Balance shaft has been removed for weight savings and the governor gear has been removed ... with a 150lbs rider and right kart frame these motors will do 45-50mph easy peezy
